The deal with coco is that while her mix up is very good and oppressive with very high reward, there is a risk involved for her, especially when the opponent jump put of her command grab and turn the table on her. Many of the top tier characters such as suisei, Aki, fubuki, etc... can have 50/50 mix up with almost no risk. Coco doesn't have strong neutral neither. Coco has some defensive option that punish opponents being reckless but most good players don't play recklessly against her. Coco is really oppressive in low level but at higher level, she has difficult against the bad match up

Aki snowballs and mixes in a billion different ways. In neutral, off a knockdown, in so many different ways. It doesn't help that she's a zoner so she automatically controls neutral, and Muki can break your combos. People don't complain about Coco because the majority of Coco players suck balls, and I mean that relative to even new players of other characters. Even besides that she's a lot harder to play than she seems. Her combo meter gain sucks without meter, her higher damage tends to require setup or are sort of gimmicky. Her neutral is weird because she's insanely good around max poke range and close to you, but is weaker in-between that area due to other characters having faster pokes. And long range, it's obvious she's not good there. Some of her combos require two frame or one frame links, this also applies to her blockstrings which have a slightly different timing if you don't want someone to mash out before you grab them.

Most complaints about Coco anyone would have are general grappler complaints except maybe her pokes which are on the upper end of the cast's. She's still a competitive character partially because she does have the grappler effect as well as an insanely good sweep, but most of her stuff isn't really bullshit.

She's too honest compared to everyone in the cast. Fubuki has a meterless instant overhead, Suisei has j.s and her insane oki, Koro has that block string at the corner, Aki is aki, Botan is botan, Sora lightsabers and A-chan, etc. Compared to the rest of the cast, Ayame has 0 bullshit and is strictly carried by your fundies. She is truly the most "honest" of the whole roster. Maybe korone is the same but korone is probably worse than ayame.
Ayame's biggest threat is probably her ex dp due to how much damage you can covert off a dp hit and force the dishonest ccharacters to respect her and play more safe. However, some characters can OS out of the dp anyway. I don't think she's bottom tier though, just mid. She still have a strong neutral and ex dp to fall back on. I think ayame's meta will evolve to using assist to get some sort of mix up or somehow use the ex ghost thing for some degree of mix up.

Fuck off, she's not honest. Her stagger pressure is the best in the game, sure it's unsafe her rekka but you don't know if the rekka will continue, if she chooses to do it as a frame trap or if she will just cancel the rekka into another fucking rekka. She can confirm from far as fuck with her 236M that comboes with meter into a fuckload of damage (almost 500dmg) and can build meter with relative ease. She has the fastest buttons and walk/running speed. She will chip you out easily due to her stagger pressure being as it is.
The only problem Ayame has is that she lacks a proper anti air, 22H should not be blockable in the air, neither 2H, neither 22L but they can be blocked. The same that Ayame is currently bugged with some of her superchat cancels, consuming meter for no canceling to appear.

I would dare say that her worst match up is, funny enough, Coco. Coco struggles with any character because she can't get in, but Ayame has to get in so god damn close that Coco gets command grabs for free in the middle of Ayame's rekkas.

Frame trap is solid, especially with rekka, but it's the most basic kind of pressure anyone can do, especially with the gatling/delay gatling system. Ayame also lacks a command grab to make her Frame trap really threatening (but at least her normal grab gives her decent position for Frame advantage). Of course, if someone guess right and mash out of the gap, then the table is turned on her. Frame trap is strong, but it is behind what many characters can do in their mix up/pressure option.

To be fair, I get what he means by her antiairs being bad. They have good reach and beat attacks, but most of her AA options don't beat chickenblock. I think chicken block is really weak in the game. The game lacks double jump/air dash, so you gain little even if you successfully jump out sometimes. There has to be some frame to jump as well because I consistently get hit by coco low on frame trap when I try to chicken block her pressure. Even if her normal get block midair, it basically force the opponent into a very negative situation and reset the pressure again. If they jump and try to land an air normal on her, she usually has time to 22M on reaction for a guaranteed punish. I think Ayame's pressure naturally can lock out many jump out attempt.

The problem with 2H I'd say is both the lack of air unblockable property and how late the more vertical hitbox comes into play. If someone wants to hit you with a jumping move, they're more likely to beat out 2H than 2H is likely to beat them out since you have to do it early to catch them. Certain jump angles are hard for 2H to deal with as well, like neutral jump near Ayame which is where the 22 series comes in. That doesn't mean jumping into her like you're playing an airdasher is a good idea, but it's just something to keep in mind when playing against her.

A-chan pressure in ridiculous, her corner blockstrings have very few holes, she forces everyone to block at round start, she has easy instant overhead setups and some of the best buttons in the game. Her only real weakness is she has the absolute worst defense in the game, but Burst in this game favors her extremely well. Because of how well she builds momentum, you’re likely to be the one to burst first. Then when you finally get momentum, she can burst back and regain it. Sometimes it feels like the only way to win against her is to get a knockdown before she slowly but surely forces you into the corner, then don’t let up on the brakes. If you can force her to burst first, you’re at a huge advantage, but if you can’t then you’ve likely lost the round.

The projectiles in the game need to disappear when the user get hit. It's one of my main gripe with the game. Air unblockable is another. I don't think air unblockable should exist. Sora is really tough because her recovery on the projectile special are ridiculous. Even if you jump as she throw the "slow" orange projectile, she can recover and 2H. Imagine if I- Meanwhile, the fast blue projectile will hit you mid jump. She can auto dial both blue/orange off block string and automatically beat jump option, which shouldn't be possible for jump in to lose that badly to projectile. If she get orange out, you have to block because even if you jump anywhere and get a guaranteed 2H on you and cancel into another projectile. She basically can end the match if she even force you to block a 5M or 5H unless you take huge risk to get out of the note pressure loop that push you all the way to the corner into a a-chan+note pressure loop

It's not because of losing, but because she inherently starts with momentum at round start and just pushes you to the corner with ease unless you're Aki or something. Then she does degenerate corner blockstrings that last forever that you almost need to burst out of. Essentially, burst in this game is an anti-comeback mechanic due to how it's designed. If you're losing, you pop burst to turn the tables on the opponent. But then once you're trying to press your advantage, the opponent gets burst meter, then they do the same thing to you and you die that round. Of course, you can still mount a comeback even if your burst first, but it varies greatly depending on who you play against. Against someone like Suisei or Sora, you can bet your ass you probably won't make a comeback.
