I know it's against the rules but I'm going to do a mean and unironic tierlist for the aspies.

First I'll explain the tiers/terms. "Unique" is a tier that is self explanatory, but I should say that I think uniqueness exceeds issues of 'scuff/quality' here, which is why I put it on top. "Scuff" here means 'overall quality and production value', so I took into account overlay, microphone and video quality, presence of absence of significant dead air, and so on. I put "low scuff" below "good content" because I think good content defeats any minor quality/production issues as long as the overall quality is passable.

Also I tried to keep my personal tastes out of the rating (so I didn't dock or add points for my personal taste in design of the avatar for instance).

Unique:

Odette - she is a unique experience, and if you don't like it that is fine, but that unique experience is a serious draw for anyone who does like it.

Nelson - similar to Odette. I had not seen Nelson yet so I watched 10-20minutes of his content on x2 speed, so this rating isn't fully informed, but from what I saw his approach is very unique compared to the average chuuba.

Low Scuff, Good Content: Basically everything seems to be in place and they have interesting discussions/personality. Nothing to say about the specific people here.

Good Content: As above, interesting discussions or personality but there are some aspects of microphone, overlay, or dead air, or something else like that that detract slightly from the experience.

Low Scuff: This means that their mic, video, overlay and lack of dead air are all good but they're a bit plain in terms of the actual discussion and their personality. I put Mona here but they currently don't have an overlay. You don't need an overlay but if they did add an overlay that wasn't very good I'd drop them to passable. Reda, I'm actually surprised. So many people shit on Reda and put him very low on tier lists, I guess it's just antis or babi haters? His setup and production is actually really good, and they're very good at keeping the air alive despite having basically a completely dead chat in most of the random clips/vods I skimmed. When he does have people in chat he is very engaged and responsive to chat. The only issue I see is that he just seems soft spoken and not the typical loud/boisterous streamer personality, not a jokester/comedian, so comes across somewhat plain/chill.

'Passable' means basically that there is nothing so glaringly bad that it needs to be fixed or people literally won't even show up, or will leave instantly. Basically your mic isn't so bad that people will instant leave, the video quality isn't so fucked that people can't watch you, etc. It's actually a very good place to start at, and you can definitely easily work up to the other tiers. The difference between the tiers is not that large. Everyone in this tier would move to 'Low Scuff' if they up some of their production quality, none of them had content or personality at a level to jump into Good Content. They all come across as basically 'regular people playing games'.

Unwatchable: I'm impressed and surprised I didn't have to put anyone here. A lot of new chuubas go in this spot. I guess /asp/ helped them out pretty well.

Oh, low scuff and good content. Right. Well everything is a sliding scale, 'low scuff' doesn't mean no scuff. Your mic could be better, true, but the issue with it is pretty minor, just some environmental sound. Try use nvidia broadcast if you can.

You have no dead air and your video quality is good, your overlay could be more "professional" but I think it kinda fits with your brand and personality. Keep in mind though that this is not a comprehensive review. Just my quick analysis/opinion.

I think you're doing good and production quality is much easier to fix than content. I think a good first step might be your overlay (which in the videos I checked seemed to just be a random picture and a chat overlay). The picture was of some weather I guess, so it fits your model, but it doesn't really read as an overlay at all.

I say overlay first only because it might be the cheapest to fix first, especially if you make your own. If you have to commission though... well I'm sure you'll make what improvements you can as you're able.

I don't know who you are, sorry, but I just chose some random videos to check so if I didn't hit your more unique streams I apologise. The 'people playing games' comment was more a general description of the whole category and not something that would necessarily be applied to every individual in the category.

Basically, I mean to say that in that tier there are no major scuff/quality issues, and the personalities and content aren't so offensive that it would cause people to quit out instantly. As I say, it's actually a very good place to start, and only slightly worse than the 'low scuff' tier, since increasing production value is not something I rate that highly.

It's possible even with Japanese lessons I would put you in 'passable' because when I rated content in this list it was more about delivery and entertainment than, say, utility, because I was coming at this from an entertainment perspective. Of course people wanting to learn a language would be using a different metric to rate your streams.

Ah okay. I think I watched a little bit of one where you were playing FE and a little bit of one that was karaoke. I have now watched some of your Japanese stream and honestly? I would definitely bump you up a tier or two. If you ONLY did Japanese streams I would put you in low scuff good content.

But I think it's worth understanding the first impression I got when I saw your other streams, because not everyone is going to see your best content first and that could affect your growth.

First thing, your mic could be better, it's not horrible, about the same as Callie's actually. Try nvidia broadcast if you can, if you can actually use it I think you'll find it makes you sound quite good. But for teaching streams I think it's extra important you're clear. In your karaoke stream the reverb was far too strong and potentially exacerbated the issue with your mic.

I didn't rate your overlay very highly. It is clear but I felt it didn't at all fit your gaming/karaoke stream, it came across as 'low effort/doesn't know what they want'. But in the context of a teaching stream it suddenly makes sense. It is a lot of extra work, but consider having alternate overlays for your gaming streams.

Yeah, a mic upgrade is something I've been considering for a while and will probably go for in a couple of weeks when i'm done redesigning my room. I'd use nvidia broadcast but my gpu is too outdated (1070) for it ;_;
as for the overlay, i have had others pitch the idea of a fire emblem themed overlay since a majority of my solo gaming content is fire emblem challenge runs
as for japanese being every stream, i sort of am averse to the idea because i would both have to do a lot more studying in my downtime to write lessons and accelerate the lessons at a much faster pace that a lot of viewers would not be able to keep up with, and i'm not well versed enough to branch out to a variety of concepts, though i will say that one of the most fun streams i prepared was the one on japanese surname etymology which was a lot more accessible than the other ones

Ah, the robot guy. First thing I would say is that I'm not sure if your microphone needs up an upgrade or whether you use some filter to give your voice some affect related to your model. If it is supposed to be an affect, then I would suggest making it more extreme/obvious even if it affects audibility slightly (and perhaps raise your mic volume slightly in that video).

There is no overlay to criticize, but it seems like there is not any chat either? Its not required but I think it is a good idea that will increase engagement. Viewers like to feel like they're in there with you and a chat overlay helps that. Some of your notifications are scuffed up though, which you noticed.

Watching more of your video as I write this, I would actually say you're not far from the 'good personality' part of the good content rating. Callie's model for instance isn't some technical masterpiece, but it has a really simple style that is done really well. I'm not an artist, but I know how hard creation is. There is some issues with the overlay (for some reason donation goes over his model in latest video, in another video the chat is escaping the overlay) but if those things were fixed, and they can be within a single stream, then I think there are no quality issues.

The microphone is good, video quality is good (though 1080p streams are bad, downgrade to 720p for people with shit internet). Content wise he comes across similar to Reda and Mona and a lot of the others in the passable category in that the content is mostly 'person playing a game and commenting/chatting with people'.

It's not bad at all but I think it is harder to upgrade from that to 'entertaining character' than it is to upgrade from low quality.

Chat-wise, rambling for a couple of hours is not a big deal, it’s just probably boring. Then autism kicked in and the head office decided it was necessary to make notes and an extensive backstory, which was promptly procrastinated upon.

See what works and what doesn't. I'm one anon. First impressions are 'Wait what is this guy exactly.... oh a robot? I guess?". If the microphone is supposed to be an old timey thing upping the effect will help the viewer get a quicker read on your character. If you don't have a background in improv I think doing improv classes will really help you play your character and it could be really fun to listen to a slick robotic salesman type especially if your kayfabe is good. Otherwise I think it will just get better with time.

A lot of people just lurk and don't talk, don't worry about that, I donno how many views you get but unless you're getting a lot of viewers dead chats are normal. You can definitely get towards that 'interesting character' style of streaming (even if it's just your own interesting personality and not kayfabe) rather than being stuck in 'a guy playing a game'.

Male and babi debuffs exist but they're not the be all end all, keep up the grind and try to improve every day, or at least every week, even if it is just baby steps every time. I think there are people who will find you interesting and stick with you over time.

The main reason I put you in good content is that I think there is a real draw to fighting game content. Of course as with everyone on the list if someone isn't personally into that stuff then they won't watch. But fighting games and competitive play (not just PvP, but ranking/ladder/tournies) have a major draw. Personal opinion on your model aside (I like it) it also suits the content you stream which is a plus.

The quality/production value improvement I think you could use is the overlay. I think the section on the right is fine thematically but you could maybe put something there. But the text box area is a bit lackluster and ends up making your overlay look like a filtered picture or some very basic background art instead of an actual overlay. Your microphone and video and ability to keep the air filled is all good.

Rating anon here, I will also say that I honestly think a lot of indie content is really good and often better than major corpo content. Like half the hololivers and nijisanji are really just 'person playing games and chatting with people'. So don't feel bad if you're that.

They just have high production value and a lot of marketing and expensive models. Legitimately I would say that if you had high production values a lot of the aspies are already better that SOME major streamers. They just got pushed hard with marketing, or they got in early or they got lucky on virality. You're going to have to grind hard as fuck to get the success they got. And that isn't to say the big chuubas didn't work for it, in a lot of cases they were successful beforehand.

But in terms of my personal rating at least a lot of them really do just do the 'play games and chat with people like a regular dude' thing, and I can get that already from you guys.

One issue might be whether or not you can pull enough viewers for it to work? You could rant into the void and it would work but it's better if you have some back and forth. Once people notice your passion (assuming this is something you're passionate about) people might be more receptive to do movie discussion interviews with you.

Fair enough. In any case I think you're doing perfectly fine streaming games as you do. But just note that that puts you in the middle of the pack that 'made it past the first filter' and unlike some of those you're missing out on the early start and you're now competing with a lot of people. Depending on what your goal for vtubing is it might be quite hard to progress from here if you do 'guy streaming games and chatting with people' stuff, but if you do it well I do think you will grow very slowly.

Of course male and babi debuffs do exist as well which you have to contend with.

It depends on what your goals here are. I think you're all doing fine (no one in 'unwatchable') and if you're having fun with it and wanna keep doing it, especially as a hobby, then none of you need saving.

If you want to make it really big though... Headsets are generally pretty bad for microphone audio, I'm actually surprised it doesn't sound way worse than it does (it sounds fine). If you get any kind of starter, even USB mic, it might take a little work with filters to get it sounding nice (depending on the mic) but it will have a much better 'quality'. At least at the moment you don't have major environmental sounds or echos.

I think it is definitely possible to read you more as a 'chill hippie' since your design is pretty close to that with the tiara and tied shirt and so on (and especially with the JO crystals). But I think monkies just make me think genki. My personal thought on your design (which I didn't include in my ratings) is that it is very exceptional and excellent so I can see why you want to keep it.

With nvidia broadcast or exceptional filtering you can probably push anything into the 'no environmental noise or echo' area but I highly recommend going for a proper microphone.

If I remember correctly the mod mic is about as expensive as a entry level blue yeti. I would say only get the wireless mod mic if you absolutely need a headmounted solution (such as if you need to do say... Ring Fit streams or something).

The mod mic is a lot better than all other headmounted microphones but still not as a good as the yetis or AT2020.
