It didn't blow up before lifting off, so it's a partial success. On the other hand the launchpad seems to have been damaged which will take a while to repair and this might have been the reason why some engines failed to light up/were damaged.
NASA and SpaceX say they're happy about the test.

I've read that this is supposed to be the test launchpad, so they didn't dig out the trenches or something which is meant to divert the flames away.
