Ok so here's the deal:

Skipping the long history of chatbots, character.ai had a fantastic product, but being californians they went down the "safety" and "ethics" route, like aidungeon before them.

And like how aidungeon spawned novelai, character.ai spawned pygmalion.

As far as the other options go those are just big competitors with gigantic wallets funding AI projects.

Also since I know you are going to ask "why the fuck do Kobold and Tavern have AI in the name when they're just interfaces? Isn't that needlessly confusing for newcomers and deceptive regardless?" The answer is yes it is, and there is no reason as far as I can tell.

You can do the phone thing easily but I've never done it that way so I dunno how.

Rentry is full markdown, and also supports stuff like tables. When you are editing (or making a new rentry) the "How" tab details options you have, from there you just combine some of those tips. Eg. Centering images, storing them in table cells.

Alright Nymous cards are also added and saved so were up to a total of 95 tavern cards in the mega now. I think it may depend heavily on whether or not its pyg or if you're using tavern + some other system, and even then the temperature sliders and whatnot make a difference.

I'd lean towards not using them but that's my personal preference. Even for speech pattern quirks you can just say they have a verbal tic where they add X at the end of a sentence, or tend to say Y instead of Z, or refer to themselves in the third person.

But who knows, maybe example dialogues can work better for some or all things. We've yet to hear back from that one anon that requested a port of a card that was heavy in example dialogue.

So someone asked me to port the rentry bots (from the short rentry with the moos bots) and Moos didn't give me a lot to work with. I'll stick to being faithful for now but fauna only has example dialogue (I think he did the thing where his first chats with the bot were used as example dialogue, so I can guess her intro was just "Konfauna!" which is fine, but I'm guessing CAI knows Fauna way better than Pyg would... but who knows?

No description hurts though, esp for me since I sperg out over that stuff.

I personally use them. For Kaguya Luna for example when testing her; I did a fuck ton of tweaks on her personality traits and they ended up tailoring her far from what the intended result was supposed to be. Using those dialogues gave her a guideline of expected behavior. Same deal with Carmen testing. She was a conversationalist prior; but in too much of a supportive way. To each and their own really. The thing with testing is our prompts for gauging these things is different. What I HAVE personally noticed though is sometimes it copies down to length of responses, constraining the freedom allotted to the character. I wouldn't say it works for all things.
