Hololive's 1st group concert was before Covid and considered a success. It's spread outside of Japan might've been slowed by it was already making ground.

Would we even know that certain small time streamers were struggling to get by? Would KFP know their Oshii didnt get to be the plympic torch and probably went back to Austria to shock shelves? Would Takodachi know an obscure artist was lonely? Would I keep watching the boomer song girls channel hoping she was sober enough to do another funny song while wishing she would play Minecraft?

Would we be able to live with the world being a better place overall just not for us?

Without Covid, Gura would be barely at 1 million and Nyanners would have overtaken her as the most subbed EN. The most subbed vtuber would still be a JP like Pekora or Marine, but pink cats influence would’ve overtook the western scene. More chuubas would try to mimic Vshojo rather than HoloEN, so lazulight and obsydia would’ve went for a less seiso approach from the get go. That is if NijiEN even exists at all in this timeline since vtubing in general would’ve still been 2019 level niche.

I honestly think covid didn't have that much of an impact. Weebs still want their waifus, and vtubers are a logical extension of that. They're anime avatar operators who can make content for a tiny fraction of the cost. I also think that Hololive EN would still be going strong because many weebs do want their shit Japanese specifically. Maybe not as good as with covid, but still very popular. If you are watching a girl behind an anime avatar stream - you probably didn't have much of a life anyway.
