She’s filtering her fans. She doesn’t want fans who care about her enough to notice how infrequently she streams. She just needs her casual fans to buy merch occasionally, since even a tiny percentage of her casual fans doing that is a lot of merch, given how many subscribers she has.
I only fully realized this last week after I met my first chumbud irl. The dude is a unityfag who mostly spams Gura memes in the vtuber channel of the discord server (yes, peccavi) but posts clips and streams of everyone in HoloEN.
Thats when I realized how she gets away with it. She’s famous enough that everyone knows when she’s back, but so many of them are casuals that they don’t care when she’s gone. And that enables her behavior.

We can literally track the viewership and engagement. About 10% of her subs actually watch her streams on average and only 7.6% actually engage through comments / likes. Of those that actually watch, only a small percent will actually buy merch / memberships so 4.3M suddenly turns into 20-40k actually buying merch / memberships. I get it, that's still a fairly big number, but let's not pretend that she sees all of that as income. Going by what we know about other splits, she'd be lucky to get 35% of it, meaning that 20 - 40k is now 7 - 14k at the end of the day.

She's not going to struggle by any metric, but just phoning it in means less and less people willing to splurge on memberships / merch because there's absolutely no value there.
