Like for example the fact that Axel's karaoke setlist leaning towards classic anime or tokusatsu, which by itself is nothing special, but the EN audience is usually pushing for nostalgic english songs, understandably so, but I don't give a shit about those. This retard is genuinely hilarious. While maybe not as edgy, he harkens back to a time of earlier let's plays and Newgrounds to the point he wouldn't be out of place as a guest on Jon-era Game Grumps/Oneyplays/Sleepycabin/etc while having just a dash of Jerma. Considering who his PL is, this all makes sense.
My only problem with him is more the fanbase than him. Women REALLY like him while a lot of men won't give him a chance, which reflects poorly on both of them. People say he panders, but all he does is talks to his fanbase, something those that are appreciative of having one SHOULD do. And yet his content and humor is pretty in line with gaming and twitch channels with 90%+ male audiences. Is it literally just the model? If it was a bit uglier and his content was identical, would the straight males like me be the majority of his viewers and not the anomaly? I felt similarly about Mysta at first despite him clearly younger and not "old internet" as much, but he started leaning in to his 90% female audience and changed his content to fit that. I fortunately don't think Bettel will ever go down that route from a combination of not being comfortable with it and not knowing how to do it beyond "just be nice to them".

I tuned in once to one of his streams, he was talking about cartoons he used to enjoy as a kid, then he said Invader Zim was great, only it was never on. This applies to both genders when it comes to vtubers. In the same way a bunch of guys are okay with watching a vtuber girl say dumb shit because she has a cute model, girls are probably okay with a vtuber guy saying dumb shit because they have an attractive anime boy model. This isn't everybody of course, but I think both males and females understand that there's an appeal to vtuber models where you would otherwise not watch the person if they were using an actual face cam and showing their real selves.

Guys like cute and sexy girls, and girls like handsome and cute guys. There's an appeal here that wouldn't exist if these people were regular streamers. So to go back to the main point, no, girls probably wouldn't be infatuated with you or your friends. But if one of you had a nice voice and had a handsome boy vtuber model, then probably.

It's a mixed bag.

Vesper, Magni, and Bettel all got chops.

Axel works fine as a foil to others but he's awful solo. On the flipside Shinri is actually pretty excellent solo but he's completely invisible in collabs. If they both lean into their strengths they could be great. Harder for Axel because of time difference.

Altare, Flayon, and Hakka are all different varieties of bad; Altare seems like a cunt (except in a few scenarios), Flayon is trying too hard to play his character (who is annoying), and Hakka is so unmemorable that I genuinely almost posted this without mentioning him.

I enjoy their content in different splices. Vesper is good to put in the background while I work and listen to the guy ramble, he has some great stories. Same with Shinri.
Hakka is a great singer, and I tune into his singing streams a lot, though his gaming streams aren't really his forte. He excels at entertaining an audience during karaoke's though.
Magni is Magni, there's a certain flavor to the guy I can't really explain.
Bettel is all around funny, he's entertaining as a motheruck and could make the most boring of kusoge fun to watch.
Altare and Flayon I watch the least. Though I've gotten used to their voices, so they aren't as grating as they used to be. While I don't think they're terrible (Minus Altare's jokes) I'm just not their target audience.

I enjoy most of them.
I like Vesper and Bettel most due to their content and personalities. Lots of things they have said is pretty relatable.
Shinri has his moments too, and is most relatable one to me personally.
Axel is there but he sucks as solo streamer. He works best during collabs.
Hakka is there but I just forget him.
Flayon is annoying.
Altare is Twitter incarnate so I just skip him.

Yes. I knew about vtubers for quite awhile but didn't care. Once I tried watching and didn't like their high pitched screeching. But I did wow at Gura's superchats per second income back then.

Then Tempus came along and basically made me start. Because IRL responsibilities and how addictive Vtubers can get, I trimmed the list in order; Axel, Altare, Magni and finally en up watching just Vesper. For vanguard, went straight for Shinri. Then trimmed entire vanguard out. Just couldn't spare the time or effort.

Vesper is quite relatable, I actually laugh at the same stuff he laughs at. Nice to hear him talk.

As for the girls, I get clips here and there, over time algo gives me a lot of Kaela. She sounds nice with none of the high pitched shit that makes me turn down the volume. Algo basically gives me Kaela, pippa and ironmouse. Those 2 are loud as fuck but at least funny. Won't watch their streams tho.

I basically pretend the entire JP doesn't exist. Don't give shit about them and most of hololive en.
