Good question. Most everything breaks down into 3 things: Frontend, Backend, and Balance
If you have a new idea, split it into these categories by stating:
- Balance: How does it affect the balance of the game, and what math or algorithm involved are you proposing. If you want a new buff or debuff or status effect, consider what calculations need to go into it. Is it affected by population size? Resources available? Resources stored?
- Backend: This is mostly on me, unless someone here is really up-to-date on how databases and ORMs work, but essentially, think about how things are stored as excel sheets. If the addition youre proposing involves a whole new excel sheet for storing the data, try to describe it as best as possible in one go because its a PITA to change later.
- Frontend: This is the UI. If your idea involves showing a whole new page or set of information to people, try to come up with a mock example of how it should look and what each button should do.

Maybe there could be a more generalized "Magical Product" resource that could used to represent cases like the /vrt/ relic? If I'm properly interpreting "relic" as old objects that have been magically reinforced with /vrt/ craftmanship. That could represent stuff like /ringo/ piss, /luna/ candifying equipment, /morig/ magic diamonds.
We could also add unique resources for all of those, but I don't know what effects so many unique resources would have. I guess it depends on how abstracted the use of all the resources is.
Though regarding nuts I feel like they'd be neither unique nor worthless. Nuts are a useful trade commodity, like other foods that keep relatively well.

Dev blog for today

Overall a bunch of crap on the backend, so nothing too big for users, sorry guys. I'm trying to keep the code clean so I dont end up painting myself into a corner. In light of that, a few things needed to be cleaned up and organized.

Changes:
- Added a bunch of new countries
- Navbar works on mobile now
- Some font and css class changes
- Several UI changes for the administration page. Should make it easier to troubleshoot and fix issues in the future.
- Entertainment nodes are now default for new users
- Created several scripts for fixing database and editing the database
- "Management" is now a drop down. Paving the way for more management pages instead of just resources.

Roadmap:
- Decrease storage values to simulate use
- Increase happiness based on unassigned workers
- Trading!

I also need some help from you lot for something, will make another post about that later.

NTA, but I'm a bit of a hydrologyfag. Would you be willing to have a system of subterranean caves under Fauna's cradle? Basically, you could have rivers that terminate in the cradle, their water permeates through the earth to those caves, and that outflow ends up flowing lower in the water table without any outflows visible from the surface. This is called karst topography, often happens if there's limestone in your geology.
Other options are to have a salt lake, which is probably not ideal for Fauna, or to have the water be teleported somewhere else with a portal. Which could be cool too desu. The water just wants to end up somewhere.

Just like with /who/, it's up to your preference on basically everything. I did already make the height map that somewhat follows the old heights (with some liberties taken here and there as the scales are different) and the hydrology would be based on it. Didn't get to work on it yet because like usual, monhun with friends got in the way, but I should be free today. Attached is the png file with your border as well as /who/, so you have some reference on where the rivers flow there. If you have any wishes for the main rivers, don't hesitate to tell me.

Also, as the other anon mentioned, while there are exceptions, usually rivers will end at the sea.

I must have read wrong. Still beer in this age is easier to store and preserve than water. Most water is used to irrigate crops. And with how sanitation is you need to boil water before you can cook or drink it after its been stored for a while. Beer and ale you can drink straight from the barrel after its distilled. Also you should look int9 the history of grog in the navy. Also 90% alcohols have medicinal properties as early wound dressers. Also there are alcohol lamps that burn alcohol for light. Proposals:

>1. Nation Clarity
There should be a way to see the settlements of the nation you are a part of.
Possibly the same for settlements within other nations too. Making visits or seeing what any particular settlement is doing should be up to the player to choose.
See: NASFAQ private vs public wallets. You can see all wallets on the leaderboard, and their net-worths, but there is an option to make your wallet private so that no one can see what coins or funds you are holding.
>2. Trade Clarity
There should be a way to see resources pouring in and out of a nation or a settlement, and where those resources are being moved. Not only would this make for very interesting reading, it would also help prevent the hypothetical case of someone making a bunch of accounts to make settlements inside other nations and just extracting all the stuff from there. Not a pressing issue right now, but for a "release" version it would be a good idea.
>3. Trade efficiency
Should internal trade within a nation be more efficient than trade that goes outside a nation?
>4. Resource Attrition
A simple "X unit of population needs access to Y necessities (Food) and Z entertainment" would be nice. For example, 1 population consumes 0.2 necessity(food) per cycle. As for entertainment, I would propose that instead of working pops generating unhappiness, working pops consume more entertainment per cycle.
>5. Resource balancing
I think that each settlement should have some access to more resources than just 3 nodes + entertainment, but that most of these should be "Poor", with the current 3 being guaranteed "Rich" or "Fair".
This would allow for someone to plausibly play the isolationist settlement route, although naturally it would be way less efficient than trading. It would also be more realistic; Even in a desert or an arctic icecap one can produce some food.
>6. Crops rework
Relating to >>46138711
Consider grouping crops into categories such as "Universal", "Tropical", "Temperate", and "Arctic". "Universal" would mean crops that can be grown pretty much everywhere (potatoes, for example), the other ones should be obvious.
Then, instead of giving a settlement a single crop as a resource, give them a few units of "Tropical/Temperate/Arctic Farmland" as resources. Let a player choose which of the crops available to their class of farmland they grow there. Richness of a "Farmland" would then naturally be a measure of how fertile the farmland of a settlement is. I do think that all settlements ought to have at least 1 unit of "Poor" farmland. Some settlements could then have more units of Farmland of various qualities.
Animals like cows could be included, this would just mean that in-universe your farmland is a pasture instead.

As far as involuntary visits: the idea is on the table. Sending scouts or spies out to other nations is something I'd like to work in at some point.

thread discussion for me is backloaded a few months so I won’t get into it beyond the last few days, Regarding the whole confusion over Phase right now, from my understanding, the situation is as follows:

In all, I have decided to cancel the plans for the war of liberation since tit all became increasingly impossible for me to do given how busy i am and truthfully, the thread drama gave my little motivation to do it in the end.

As for your micro state, i have a proposal: Why not have Capippalist separatists that manage to succeed somewhat in getting autonomy? That could be an interesting route. Also, Im not the most qualified on the current state of pcg to know if other things have emerged that come up in lore. Glad to see you back, let’s try to get back to work. Maybe the other pcg anon can come back too.

Also, good work on the /aeg/ lore piece, Retro, i presume. I wish i was around to help there and I am sure aegbro would have too. If there are any corrections I would like to make, ill try to bring them up. I think the only thing you might want to consider changing is the name for /pcclg/ to something else as I think the diastima name came post-war. I personally would prefer us to use the former name of cyberlive (Ayakkayolia) and use Syndeoneia as part of a union (like Poland-Lithuania) but maybe we should make a whole new name for that shortlived empire. Good seeing that you’re doing well and also glad this place has seemed to become much less toxic than it was for a while. Impressed by the efforts put into the Heishin War, Space, and this game.

Does the amount of goods you have stockpiled affect the rate at which unhappiness falls, instead of only whether you have enough to feed the population for the next cycle? Does having people in the entertainment job decrease the rate of happiness drain?

Prediction was even worse than I suspected. Produced only 45 units with 72 workers. Delta/wrk ratio changed by -19.49% for the "Rich" node.
Next cycle prediction is 0 for all nodes at 0 workers. Let's see if that fixes any of the happiness issues.

I think it would be better if the system was less punishing. I think one should be able to deal with the drain a bit better by having pops not working, instead of it seemingly making the drain worse. thanks for the feedback, as for the name, i tried discerning the circumstances of the Diastima name but i could only find it beign mentioned in thread like twice in short succession of two posts deciding that /aeg/ now simply is called that retroactively. i am not even sure if that was aegbro or jsut someone else but since aegbro never said anything else i assume that it stands. and as i already mentioned i cannot decipher what of the many namedrops of megas is meant to be the name for /pcclg/.

Also did you ever think you could train the locals to make food? The bakery would be better off learning to bake local recipes using local ingredients. Also it appears I'm being false flagged again. So trip is back on. Anyway as novel as /nasa/'s sweets and bread are local recipes will give you ideas how to use local ingredients. For the /who/ mining town the soil isn't that great for wheat. Which means Sanallites in the bakery have to learn to bake marble rye and barley bread to start with. Next breads on the menu is potato bread and maple syrup buns. We don't have 21st century freight. well for realisms sake you would have to actually consider what resources nations written for actually have, right now for example the Retro Reich(vrt) isn't actually rich in rubies but amethysts and quartz.

and while this might sound icnredibly stupid on first read, i fear that goign for realism and reflecting nations that way isntead of a game balance might actually encourage people to powergame their nation by suddenly bringing up richness in resources etc.

so i think goign for balance form a gamestandpoint is a better choice here

Doubt it. But everyone should at least have an Entertainment node to mine for Necessity.
That being said.
Right now every country only has 10 nodes, and every player only gets 3. This was done to make testing easier in early stages.
Once I put in the new resources, countries are getting 50, and players will get 4.
