Japan sucks at esports, (though they do have a good FGC), the skill level may be low enough there for girls to play in domestic events. But just as an example, there are zero females in top-level international CSGO, SC2 or mobas (no, trannies don't count).
I'm surprised Selen was even good enough to participate in a tournament because it's incredibly rare for that to happen, and when that does happen they always finish dead last. If she's actually managed to achieve something besides dead last it would be in the running for the best female performance in professional esports.

I don't really know. I think Luxiem was the source of growth for the branch as a whole for a while now, and when they imploded, it brought everyone else down with them. The girls have been treating their male fanbase really badly and focusing everything on getting female fans from Asia, and now we're seeing the results of that. Their phantom growth has blown away in the wind.

The problem with Luxiem is that, besides one or two, they've all had major yabs. Vox literally had a mental breakdown. Luca said things about fat women that drove much of his fanbase away. Shu is basically graduated at this point because of his disappointment over the AR live. Mysta is as insane as ever. And Ike never made much numbers anyway.
