Good thing is, the game stands on its own pretty well. I played it without having played Replicant and I think all that happened was that a bunch of references flew over my head. The story, theme, and characters all stand on their own and it's great.
As for Ame's sessions in particular, all you need to know is that 2B and 9S are androids sent to earth to wipe out the machine life forms, but it seems there's more to the machines that they thought. That's about the simplest I can put it, and I think the last time she fought a boss, had internet issues, and then dropped the series 'til now. Assuming she picks up from there she'll be heading to a village that has peaceful machines, which is an oddity that 2B and 9S will check out.

Agreed in the context of judging and reviewing games on their own merits. However Ame is in some way correct that the game isn't great for entertaining the audience that watches Ame nor attracting audiences to watch Ame. I think she gets overwhelmed when games give you lots of options. She was mentioning a lot how many markers she had on the map, with the Witcher too everyone was telling her to do side quests while she just wanted to go forward.

She also dropped Breath of the Wild, a game most people like. Mario games are *kinda* open worldy but most feel like minigame > minigame > minigame. So they're probably manageable to her and playing MC with other people in the server gave her enough motivation to get going (she said she never could get into it before... why? No direction.)

Basically. She seemed to have fun just roaming around, doing the side quests, and getting inspiration for her terrarium. Subnautica is good, but it can be hard to figure out how to progress in the plot, and Ame hates backseating. You can still have a lot of fun just messing around in it, so it's not like it's that important that she would advance.
