i was watching that one compilation of suisei training for her second MK tourney after losing the very first one and it woke up something inside me. suisei genuinely sucked ass at mario kart, even when she said she trained a lot for the first cup, yet all she did was say "my goal for next time is get first place in the tournament" and her whole demeanor changes and her primary focus is completely set on getting better at it by practicing non-stop and in a meaningful way. the fact it worked completely boggles my mind, going from being a total noob to someone who's legitimately competent in a relatively short time. even if she hadn't actually won first place she would've cried her usual frustration tears and then simply said "okay but next time i'm winning for sure". with all the acquired skills she got by all that practicing she was bound to win first place eventually.

i realized then that this is how she operates with pretty much everything she does and not just games, and that was legitimately super goddamn inspiring. you really can just do whatever you want no matter how much you suck at first at it and become really competent and respected. in my honest opinion she really wasn't very good at singing when she was starting out, but going from that to then being someone whose voice is being gushed over by fucking everyone (i actually nearly teared up with her TFT stellar stellar performance because it was so fucking good), i feel insanely motivated to do my reps on the things i want to become really good at now. i constantly had that doubt in my mind ("i don't have that natural talent, so i'm gonna hit a brick wall eventually with my progress", "this is as good as i'm gonna get", etc), but now it's all completely gone, at least for now. and all i had to do was being reminded of what suichan's approach to life is by rewatching her play fucking mario kart.

i'm glad she's successful now but i sure do miss the days where she can sing at full form again
i've been relistening to her live singing content again and some of the pre-surgery ones just hit different compared to post-surgery (live kakusei and maribako in particular)
don't get me wrong though, 2nd live is still amazing, but apparently she is not 100% there and still recovering? here's hoping she makes a full recovery soon and not overstrain her throat again

i get why you'd think that but that's absolutely not how it works. if you don't practice you become rusty, your skills get out of shape and you lose consistency. rest is important, but that doesn't mean backing off and singing once in a blue moon. top tier, professional singers are recording and performing way more often than suisei and they don't lose their voices because on top of being constantly practicing they're also doing vocal training and routines in such a way that keeps their vocal chords healthy, most likely following instructions from a professional, which is what suisei is lacking. she can get incredibly skillful but if she doesn't take the proper care she's gonna get more throat hort, and that's got nothing to do with how much she's outputting.

her improvement in singing is clearly visible, it's just i feel her voice seems a bit different post-surgery or maybe my current audio setup is messing with my perception right now, i got something that basically makes voices clearer so it made me more sensitive when something's "off"

for the record, with "proper care" i don't mean solely precautions like diet or rest and whatnot, but also proper technique. for instance, you can be a killer guitar shredder but you can massively fuck up your wrists or joints if you just bruteforce your picking or try playing fast without warming up, or an excellent sax player but having shit breath control and losing your (well) breath constantly, and all of these are solvable by taking proper care of how you execute. this can be with the guidance of a professional/teacher, or by having a really good sense for it (which is way less frequent).

i think she mentioned taking lessons once but not liking the teacher so she just dropped them, this being from before hololive. i really hope she reconsiders and decides to take them again with a teacher she likes, i'm sure cover can get her in contact with one suitable for her.
