Gen 1 only had 5 members including Chris back then. Mel was supposed to be a standalone like Miko and Roboco. Look at their debut dates. Mel debuted 2-3 weeks earlier while everybody else in Gen 1 debuted on June 1st to June 3rd and all of them shared the common theme of being schoolgirls. When Chris fucked up less than a month after the company decided to shove Mel in with the rest of Gen 1 despite her debuting much earlier and despite not being a schoolgirl.

Because she found the limits of being an indie, anon.
She was an indie for a year after holo.
Yes, she can hire a manager and do most things by herself, but it took a lot of her time and energy. Not mentioning she still wants to stream.
Now, with the help of Vshojo, she can do bigger projects, while still streaming frequently.
I don't really like some of the members myself, but their business model surely looks tempting for content creators.
