I defended male vtubers before Luxiem came along. I watched them in JP, and they're fucking great.

But then Luxiem came and lacked any of the professionalism or delicacy that talents like Kagami had, and went harder into pandering than anyone considered acceptable before then. Fast forward a bit, and nearly every male vtuber to come out of Nijien is offensively bad.

But I figure that Tempus will be held to a higher standard because hololive is just a more restrictive company. And they kind of are, but instead we get eight boys that're aggressively mediocre compared to just about any other group in the corporate scene. Only one out of eight has a talent, period, and his sheer latiness makes him unwatchable for me despite his great singing.

Male vtubers are legitimately just far worse in the English scene right now than female vtuubers. The entire gender over here is completely reliant on parasocial pandering. Brotuberfags are even sadder than true blue unicorns. I'm just so disappointed.

I don't think Axel's lazy, what makes you say that? I pretty much agree though, I don't feel like talent/skill in a particular area is as necessary to a vtuber as entertainment ability is, and I find pretty much everyone in Tempus lacking in that regard.

Many people have had the fantasy of spending time with an anime girl in their room.
Pretty much no one has had the fantasy of spending time with an anime guy even if its fucking Kirito or Naruto or whatever; of those who do, it's more because they're interested in their world than their character. If they can't provide new information about their setting they'll quickly lose interest in them as well.

Nearly every male vtuber could turn off their avatars and their streams would automatically improve by 10%.

You know it's not just that, or there would be dozens of successful indie male vtubers by now. Even for just the guys who started with Myth debut, if everything was equal you should be seeing some 2K or 3K average male indies. Certainly the number of guys into weeb shit who can work L2D and stream games even just as a hobby far, far outnumber women, and yet they have found far less success.
I won't say male vtubers as a concept are completely doomed, but the whole paradigm of good-looking anime dude is probably not the way to go.
