I'm not their shill but they kinda are. They stand out and have decent numbers. They're making moves and are growing. With Tsunderia's downfall and Prism doing literally nothing (fuck you Sony) their only two rivals at this level are Kawaii and Phase, both of which have one or two very big talents and the rest are significantly smaller.
Phase and Idol are head-to-head rivals because both are fairly new, both recruit from western talents and both are more or less western instead of under japanese management. What's good for the small corpo scene is good for everyone. Legitimizing it, spreading awareness of it, luring in Holosanji fans is all good.
They still compete with each other but it's a constructive competition where they try to be better than the others while still cooperating.
Small corpo's challenge is to get holosanji's viewers. But once someone takes the small corpo leap their views are up for grabs.
Some viewers have a clear specific bias so they belong to a specific small corpo.
All vtubers are gfe but Kawaii is THE seiso gfe corpo and all the girls are cute dorks, for guys that are super into thay experience no other small corpo can replace it.
Phase is the most edgy yab /here/ corpo with an attitude, people drawn to that won't hop to another corpo because they can't get that there.
On this note idol so far is the all rounder small corpo which helped it get a lot of usual big corpo audience.
It also means their fans are unlikely to trade them for phase or kawaii.
But there's certainly some overlap across all small corpo.

At the end of the day there's always competition but I don't see as much tribalism in comparison to bigger corpos like the Holo/Niji ordeal, from what I see most people in the small corpo community just watch whoever they want independently from which corpo the talent is, also the girls themselves seem to talk and do collabs off stream from time to time (Yuko collab with Pippa, Lisa collab with Juna, Sava off stream collab with both Shiina and Fuyo)
So there's definitely a feeling of unity, at least in comparison to the bigger agencies

A lot of people don't like changing platform.
Twitch itself has its own culture too with a twitch audience
Twitch vtubers evolved from that culture.
Twitch viewers hops across twitch streamers and they have a lot of options there and twitch vtubers interact plenty so there's interconection.
Hololive and Nijisanji each have their culture too but both share many traits in common.
Most small corpo are influenced by the vtuber culture that evolved from holosanji.
They have similar management, language, rules, etc.
It's possible for a Vshoujo fan to jump over to youtube and watch a small corpo.
But they are more likely to watch another twitch vtuber instead.
Small corpo is already on the same platform as holosanji and resembles it, it's easy for a holosanji fan to tune in to a small corpo and feel comfortable.

Numbers are numbers, I think small corpo would welcome numbers no matter where they come from.
But taking Vshoujo viewers is much less likely than taking holosanji viewers so it's not something often considered.
