He was. He managed to play intensive games while having among the best chat interaction I've seen and juggling between his expression constantly and had comedic timing. And he even did all this while managing collabs, often carrying it itself (remember the arypie collab).

He had also some interesting ideas regarding vtubing like the use of hardware such as heart rate monitor to alter the model in real time (color, switching to scared expression)

I love my viewers so much...seeing them show up to streams and have fun makes me so happy. They're incredibly sweet and kind and I wish they knew how much their kind words and encouragement means to me. I honestly wish these boards knew more than me when it comes to insight of how I am doing and what I could do to improve, but it’s mostly oversimplifications. I know I’m not that entertaining compared to my colleges and friends but I still am having fun vtubing and I’ve been filtering out people who are just rubbernecking my unusual design or people who think I have some kind of clout to offer and finding regulars who genuinely just like to watch me draw and talk about wild ass kinks. I’m really proud of the small group of regulars I have been able to amass, but if I’m going to go up I need to work on being more entertaining while finding ways to get into the line of sight of viewers interested in hanging out with a perverted artist dude, which isn’t so easily done.

When you make and play a vtubing character, you get to pick which elements of your life you want to include to make it entertaining.

If Spacer had started to mention his gf it would have been absurd and just annoying, it has no relevance to his lore or character. Same with Corpse, starting to talk about their bf/gf or whatever would just not make sense, is someone having their way with her deceased body? That jp bear too, doing so seriously would have just felt forced and weird when the character goal was to escape the hills not settle there.

For Meat or Kitanya, they're focused on their audience and making the stream entertaining, only occasionally using IRL elements if they can improve the experience, it's not hiding, it's simply that there is no reason to include this part of your life, along many other parts.

Of course if you're just "yourself" without any attempt at dissociating and vent or overshare at length about your life then yeah, it's different. But by default a vtuber has no obligation to include their life into their performance/character, it's opt out by default. Personally I have no interest hearing a vtuber explain how they did their taxes, or complain about their family or that they're constipated, maybe some people are into that but up to the vtuber to decide their content.
