There are 3 types of Vtuber.
>Those who are molded by their character.
They are basically like an actor who plays a character in a movie. They change their personality in front of the camera to match the character that the audience wants and expected.

>Those who mold their charcter.
They are those who use their character not as a role to play, but as a basis to create their own character. A good analogy for this kind of vtuber is like those who roleplay in an rpg. They are basically given a character by the game, but how that character behaves and act is up to the player themselves.

>Those who uses their character as a puppet/speaker for themselves.
Most of bottom tier vtuber belong to this category. They are basically like a bad ventriloquist, they use vtubing as a gimmick instead of a medium. Some of you might think that those who mold their character also belong to this category, but there is a clear distinction. If we use the roleplay analogy from earlier, those who roleplay in an rpg doesn't act like that in reality and vice versa. Meanwhile vtuber who belong in this category doesn't distinguish themselves from their character.

>Doesn't that mean that all good vtuber are fake?
It should be an open secret that all the top tier vtuber are basically acting a character. It might seem disingenuous, but that is what most people want. Most people wants fantasy. People loves to see this anime bunny girl blowing up a female knight with TNT in a children block game, that because its a novel experience that they can't experience themselves. They don't want to watch Rebecca from the class next door bragging about her boyfriend from another school, people can already do that in their own everyday lives.

>So what kind of vtuber is a good vtuber?
A good vtuber is a good liar. It doesn't matter if you are acting or roleplaying as your ideal character, what important is maintaining your image. If you're playing as a lewd middle age cosplayer, you tell your viewer about your experience grooming your coworker kids in the past to reinforce your degenerate woman image. If you play as your viewer girlfriend, you make sure that your character isn't being shipped with your male coworker. People might say that vtuber should be allowed to do stuff outside what their viewer wants. But I can assure you with 100% certainty that people who says that will never watch the vtuber in question even if the vtuber do what they wants. The moment the illusion breaks, you no longer give them the fantasy the viewer wants, the market is already saturated. If a vtuber doesn't give what the viewer wants, most will just jump to the next closest ship.

tldr, Korone is the best chuuba.

Did you know there were three kinds of vtubers? Those who refine their acts. Those who live for numbers. And those who can read the tide of memes.

And I've fucked every one of them.

the idea that most people watch vtubers because they are looking for something they can't experience themselves is partially correct. people who watch vtubers have no social skills, so they try to form genuine bonds with people under the cover of anonymity. when they see a vtuber that seems genuine they find them endearing, which is why the best vtubers all have real personalities and seem like real people, whether or not they are secretly just playing a role given to them by someone else, typically a corporation. good liars are good vtubers, but so are good truth-tellers. it's bad liars that get ignored. that is why kiki is the best chuuba.

If it's taken you this long to realise that vtubers are acting, you are painfully retarded and need to be sterilized for the good of the gene pool.

Korone isn't roleplaying but simply knows proper etiquette and how to behave and control herself. When you're on camera broadcasting yourself to thousands you don't talk about dicks and retarded neighbourhood drama.
I think it generally boils downs to if the person genuinely values their audience more than themselves or vice versa. Most top tier chuubas would bend and twist themselves to hell and beyond for their audience. Not to be confused with possessive antis larping as fans though, the chuubas get a feel for the needs of their core audience over time and try to fulfill these.

I think what they mean is that the former is making their character to be what their designer and viewers wants. And the later is making their character to be what the person behind the chuuba wants to be.

I kind of understand that but no matter how you look all three types are present in Korone, Pekora, Miko or whoever... they have moulded their character, they have been moulded by audience/corp and they express their individual selves through their character.

It's like saying this person is evil or this person is good. It doesn't make sense.

Perhaps that is the case. But to some extent, some chuuba do tend to leans toward one type.
Himemori Luna for example still leans toward the first type, although she does seem to get rid of her nanora nowadays.
I think most good chuuba natural progresion is starting with first type and slowly becoming the second type. What I can agree however is that most of the popular chuuba do play a character. While they still let some of their real selves into their character, they still separate their real self from when they are in front of the camera.
Though this doesn't seem unique to just vtubing. I think a lot of popular youtuber also play a character to certain extent.
