Before you start a stream is there an ideal amount of time that you should go live with like a pre-stream count down or playing music or something? Or should I just go live and start up a stream as quickly as possible? I feel like when I do the pre-stream thing it basically never results in people being there when I actually start the stream, but maybe it still results in people funneling in more quickly when the actual stream. Or maybe people open your stream and immediately leave if they see that the stream hasn't started yet and never come back. Its hard to say.

I do a 10 minute timer, playing music to get me into the mood too. No talking. I have a timer on screen, so people can know when to expect the stream to actually start. I don't post links or anything like 1-2 minutes before the timer runs out because i don't want to waste people's time.

This is my preferred method and I don't think I'll change that. I love sharing music and it gives me immediately something to talk about. I will always start with some extra zatsu these days (like 10-15 minutes at least), even when nobody is there and then go into the "main program".

Worst experience with indies I ever had were not 4chan related. They were just unhinged and paranoid, and took it out on other people. Then went to twitter to get support for getting rid of toxic people. 4-5k is way over the required or recommended amount for a model. have you even streamed before? i'm pretty sure that amount is around how much companies or huge indies spend on new models (2wintails and ironvertex come to mind), but if you're asking here of all places to look for recommended artists and riggers around that price range, you really should reconsider spending that amount.
for the record, i'm also indie and spent around $1000 on my model + rig. i've spent a bit more on things like stream assets and overlays to the amount of about $200-250. it's definitely pretty quality and i'd say above average over the average western artist model + rig (since they were both jp artists), but even then i'd consider that a pretty hefty amount for someone who just started out.

Most people will never make back that 4-5k in model costs. If you arent streaming regularly and already having an audience that can fund the model, most people would spend more conservatively if they want to get a model like half that. Anyways avoid Iron Vertex, they're really not worth it because you can get better deals with artists who are lesser known but just as high quality. As for rigging, most people wouldnt notice a top level rigging but they will notice a bad one. You can find decent riggers out there for far cheaper.

Don't spend too much money into vtubing though, we're past the honeymoon stage and you'll have to be dedicated and unique in order to stand out today.

I can't tell you whether it's a good idea, or whether you should want to do it. You've got to decide that for yourself. I've seen large indies have little-to-no debut before getting started. That said, here's some of my bad advice.
For a trailer, I'd want to see the model and voice, a bit of context/character description if you're doing anything more high-concept than "person with animal ears," and preferably some kind of hook to get people interested in future content. If your voice is nice, writing some narration could work wonders for you. If you're good at making videos, maybe storyboard a trailer that can speak for itself. Actually, in general, your video editing skill is going to be a factor in what sort of first impression you get to present to people. If you're at a Windows Movie Maker level of technique, then don't sweat it, just check off those boxes (or skip debut entirely, up to you) and start your chuubing reps. If you're more competent with it, feel free to think about which of the things I listed above you'd most want to share with people. I'll be here if you'd want to bounce ideas off of somebody. Basically, find a way to show off a talent/passion of yours and then cut it off in a way that would make people want to see more. Specifically saying "I wanna do XYZ things" is less important in my opinion.
You'll also want the trailer to have a referral to the debut, either with an announced date and time, or a link to a waiting room at the top of the description. For debut itself, the only advice I'd give is to NOT feel like you have to make it be X minutes long if you don't want it to. The corpo debuts are sometimes an hour long for various reasons, but if you only feel like you need 5-10 minutes to make an impression, then absolutely go for it.

There is a steam sale right now, there are a bunch of good streamable games that are insanely cheap. Keep an eye on metacritic and pick out stuff that is coming out that seems interesting. Sub to YouTube channels who do playthroughs of short games. There are a bunch of free ones on itch.io too. Nobody knows how twitch allocates out gift subs - it's not always to active chatters, or even to followers.
I used to always do a 100cheer whenever i got a gift sub to a channel I watched, to help kick the hype train, and to say thanks. I got a lot more random gift subs whilst I did that.

If you want so trivia on models, the canvas size of it determines how much you can zoom in. 4000px height is the bare minimum for a decent model with 8000px or more being HQ. There are 16000px models as well and those are the highest quality at the moment (they will also use a lot of cpu resources as well due to huge texture maps). I still recommend you go for one of those if you have the chance as the rigger can give you lighter versions of it till your pc can handle the original file.
