I disagree with this. The last major DQ releases (8, 9, and 11) all did very well in the west. Dragon Quest's problem is that Square Enix has no idea how to market the series in the west going all the way back to the retro days when Enix was separate from Squaresoft. The fact that Dragon Quest 8 wasn't immediately scheduled for a next gen remake after DQ11 was both a commercial and critical darling is a huge blunder. Other than the PS2 original the only ways to play that game are a bad mobile port or a 3DS port that is nearly impossible to find. The same thing can be said for there being no ports for 4, 5, and 6 other than Mobile and DS. The fact that those games aren't on Switch and Steam is really baffling.

Who the fuck knows, Other than CCV/Vods and SCs we don't have much info. Merch obviously depends on production cost and other factors but if done well they can generate insane profits, and I believe that's the case for Hololive.
Sponsorships are good money but a lot of Holos don't seem really interested in them unless it's something they are personally interested in and can make for a good stream. Which is absolutely understandable, they'd rather work on their brand and building a strong core fanbase than cash in some quick bucks at the expense of their content.
Corporate Vtubing is a whole different beast compared to most other streamers.

Sounds really good and this is the best that Amelia and Kiara have ever sounded in one of these group songs. Gura sounds great as usual and IRyS sounds absolutely divine. Only complaint is that IRyS didn't really get an entire solo segment but great song overall

My working theory is that the ccv verification thing was specifically put in place to counter Kpop fags, so they have more servers in East Asia to handle that. Ok, notwithstanding the fact that people cycle in and out of a stream all the time that explains poll numbers>ccv, let's take all these assumptions to be true
1. There is a cull of viewer in terms of ccv
2. The percentage cull for each streamer is different

What I gathered from reading this thread is that
1. Waiting room recovery doesn't mean shit
During CCVID there are times that ccv never recovered above the waiting room number, but there is never a saying going around that waiting room recovery becomes slower. The idea is that some viewers are never calculated from the waiting room, not that it recovers slowly.
2. Verification
It ties together with waiting room recovery, as each viewer is verified again using black magic by Youtube's Algo. There is no evidence that link rate, or speed of verification process with the percentage of cull that is happening in a stream, which put the final nail in the coffin of "waiting room recovery" as an indication of how much a stream is cull.

Now we can go to the potential reason why EN "seems to be" having higher percentage of cull than JP.
1. The reason for cull
There is a general assumption that culls are Youtube's method to prevent botting of a stream, which is dubious as people can still bot the stream. Another theory is that cull happen as Youtube wants to get an accurate numbers of viewers that are relevant to their ad revenue - the number of people that can watch ads.
2. Culled viewers = viewers that can't watch ads
This is dubious at best too as there is no conclusive answer from anon experimenting with ad blocks and whether login/logout affects viewership, at least not something that is posted here. But let's assume that people who can't see ads are culled, we can make a few more assumptions to conclude that EN is culled more than JP:

A). More EN viewers use adblocks than JP
B). More EN viewers watched tab-out or embeded in other platforms (hence cannot receive ads)
C). EN has more viewers outside of places that Youtube can put ads on (e.g. Africa, Russia etc)

Noticed that there are a lot of assumptions needed to make "EN is more culled than JP" true because we don't have any idea how YT algo works.

One more addendum to the explanation of other number discrepancies between EN and JP
1. Likes
JP are more passive compared to NA/SEA. They won't automatically "いいね" a stream just like EN.
2. Polls
Same as above. Japanese are more passive in turn of participation. I noticed that they view the stream as another entertainment that is akin to TV than NA/SEA and won't vote on a poll unless it is mandatory. At most they will just type in chat. This is probably because YT streaming culture was brought from NND for JP and Twitch for others respectively
3. VOD views
Sorry to say but JP audiences simply have too many livestream to enjoy that they don't need to watch VODs to cope. Koyori for example streamed shit tons hence her VOD views are affected. If someone missed a JP stream they will probably not gonna go back to watch unless it is something important.
