Do you think your oshi will still be vtubing by 2025? How long will vtubers last?

>> No.397188

>>396984
Some will last longer than others. It's a matter of profitability and popularity. Most of the hololive girls probably will, but indies? If some ignorable nobody is getting five concurrent viewers now, they'll be getting the same or less in five years. Most won't last until the end of THIS year.

I could probably see the currently existing companies plateauing out soon. I don't think the medium will peter out, but it wouldn't surprising to me if my oshi moves on from vtubing within the next four years.

I'm someone new to the scene and only see hololive girls but it looks like their retention rates are high, but Ina and Mori work other jobs so as far as being able to do it full time we'll see.

I don't think any vtuber will reach 2025. The way this exploded has me feeling like this is just a fad that will stop being profitable in like 2 or 3 years.

i don't think it's entirely fair to separate being a vtuber from being a livestreamer in this context, as being a vtuber is literally just a fancy facecam for a livestreamer.
as the technology improves and the barrier to entry lowers in kind, i think it'll remain a viable alternative to showing your real face or going faceless.

40 is my expected year for their retirement due to voice degradation, so the chances are low for now.
My reasoning lies on how most of these people rely on pills, love drinking, maintain unhealthy schedules and avoid doctors. On the other hand, there’s always chance of scandals that can kill channels. Which is something that irritates me, because somehow these people love to get involved in questionable business instead of setting down and enjoy their time.

>>399341
Avatar streaming will adapt and is here to stay. My take is that in the future people will rely on avatars a lot to the point that fans marrying idols will not be a rare chance. I can see it working as it clear females from workforce and let males do their thing just like generations ago.

What other phenomenons exploded as much as vtubers have and declined in 2-3 years?

Vtubers will probably be around in some form for decades but the name will probably change, unless it becomes illegal to not use your real identity on the internet. Who knows if any have the endurance to stick with it for more than 5 years, though.

Of course, I want them to stay for years and years. But I can't be so selfish that I would ask them to be dancing monkeys for me at their own expense.
In a perfect world, they could live their lives and still be in mine. But even that seems like it only benefits me.

I don't think the concept itself will ever go away but all of them will eventually move onto other things in life, though it will probably take more than 5 years for the top vtubers like Gura or Pekora.

I imagine it'll be kinda like the fan stuff MLP had. Really big right now and probably will stay that way for another year or two. Once the newness wears off and Covid is finally over I imagine alot of people who just want to chase trends will move on and quite a few of the smaller and independent ones will be forced to move on.

Biggers ones that are tied to companies will probably be around until 2023 to 2025, until either graduating for health reasons, changes in social standings (ie marriage) or just wanting to do other things. Avatar streaming will be around for a long time, but I doubt it will be quite like this current crop. There will always be new people discovering it as an alternate way to get attention/be famous or make money who will jump onto the trend and try to maximize the niche.

I do imagine that some VTubers will probably try to make this their life career. Marine and Pekora come to mind, the former will probably avoiding returning to the Toxic Japanese work culture with all her ability and the later is so socially stunted that I doubt anything else is reasonable for her. Gura as well, though she'll probably drop the current character and do a different one with decent success because based on her prior exploits she seems to know how internet culture works and can abuse that.

Sometimes they just leave.
The closest I had to a oshi graduated in less than a year. Was great at singing and playing the guitar got monetized quickly and had a steady following of viewers. Even had more features for her live2d added on each milestone. Was the first time I subscribed to a fanbox and superchat.

She eventually graduated and my selective memory doesn't recall her ever giving a reason but I did notice that she didn't interact as much with her listeners, especially repeat EoP offenders(got a shitty raid from EOoPs spouting memes on an Animal Crossing stream once and a few sticked around to have her say difficult words or memes).

For additional context, she had 2 other "brothers" with the same designer and a sister who was freshly debuted a month or so before her graduation. First brother went on to be more successful and won a spot at an online singing competition while the other faded out first due to lack of consistency in streaming. The entire family seemed to just break up/dissolve after. I didn't check if the remaining members kept their collab videos up but depending on the situation, it might be better to just remove them to avoid viewers from asking questions.

You can never know when they'll leave even as they keep increasing in popularity and profitability they might just simply be gone. Some overnight, some with a proper send off.
