Other anons have said it,but try getting into a circle of 2views that help each other.
When I was starting out I relied a lot on them and they helped me get off the ground. If I ever make it big I told them I'll put a specific dislike that will make me recognizable in an instant to them and I'll give them a big shoutout, then if my corpo allows for it I'll collab with them and get their names out there too.

If you want to become an idol I strongly recommend you to join hololive
Then you will have to be like someone like Fauna and be professional (don't make yab,talk about boyfriend,talk about your sex experience,collab too much with males) And most importantly be entertaining and try to not insult your fans and have good interactions with them

One thing that many content creators (not just vtubers) forget over time: Don't be ungrateful to your viewers, try to always be honest (in proper terms) with them.

Another piece of advice is to think like a viewer, as a viewer what would you like to see? Apply this question when creating content and maybe your streams will improve, many streamers make content but don't really know what to do because they don't have a viewer mentality and they end up just streaming the same thing and that is bad in the long run.

Last said, always experiment with all kinds of new games, when a popular game comes out (yes, that game that everyone plays), stream it and get the most out of it, on the other hand, this is vital in my opinion, be very always constant, always have content not only in terms of streams, but in social networks, always post things, whatever, finally, I would advise you to be close to your viewers, you are an indie 2view, take advantage of it, what are viewers looking for who Do you see this type of vtubers? Foster a dedicated fanbase so they keep following you even if you change model/name.
Remember this: there are hundreds of vtubers streaming at the same time as you, and most of them have cool models and nice voices, if you're lucky people will watch you but they will only stay if they like your personality.
Talk with your chat at the start/end of every gameplay stream. Be welcoming of new viewers.
Make a schedule and try to be punctual, doesn't matter if you can't stream every day, just try to be consistent.
If you think you're losing momentum plan some big event, even a redebut, to generate hype and get new people to watch you. Tweet every day to remind people that you're active even when you can't stream.
Be friendly and supportive to other vtubers, you will get the same thing in return. Try to keep notes of all the knowledge and resources that other people share with you.
Also, it's not so bad to do some light pandering to this site, just don't make that your whole personality. You can even link your channel (be subtle)

Definitely DONT do this unless you are very good at said niche. Dedicating yourself to just one small audience in what's already a niche medium will cut out tons of potential viewers and people interested in that niche only care about watching the most popular ones doing that

In general as a 2 view you want to stream popular things so you have a higher chance of getting into people's recommended and when someone checks you out try to interact with them and make them feel comfortable and welcome so hopefully they come back to watch more streams. Also stream in a consistent schedule so the people who may be interested have an easier time getting to watch you.

Being able to sing is important, but also important is developing a talent and niche that is marketable and makes you stand out. Vocal range, ASMR, drawing, fluency, idol performing, etc. are examples you see that got into Hololive. Nepotism is useful too though you can’t do much to engender that organically with those already in. You shouldn’t just focus on one thing to the exclusion of others but you want to find a talent or discover a skill that is useful or marketable. Doing that early on can be a mistake but if you do want to make it big you gotta bring something special to the table eventually. Training and improving off stream can be useful when it is too early to really do anything well.

Find a niche that you can rely on, be it certain types of games or a type of show. Haachama is a great example of standing out in a big corpo. Build your character with your fanbase and dont let /vt/ convince you that you’re shit.
I personally considered applying to HolostarsEN and fighting for permission to play Silent Hill, then I would go deep into the occult themes of the game and Jungian psychology. I’m also great at speedrunning the newer Resident Evil games/remakes, plus I would make actual 10min videos.

If niji or (especially) holo is your goal, then learning Japanese is almost mandatory (aim for an N4 level). Otherwise, you need something as a streamer that you excel at, it could be playing games, zatsudans, art or some other skill.
