This, the only "improvement" there's been is the quality of the recording equipment. The people are still dogshit. The likes of Simon Templeman or Tony Jay(RIP) are rarities. You get the shitty funimation VAs and the same few shitty western VAs that do things on the cheap 99.99% of the time.
Japan will get their A lister all star VAs for certain games, those A listers are then replaced by the lowest D listers for the english dub VAs. Only FromSoft really do the EN dub well but as others have said they get theatre actors not generic VAs for that.

I don't even blame VA's, I blame the people in charge of hiring these mediocre bastards and these failed writers as """localizers""". Kaguya-sama's dub had two or three competent actors, but it was completely ruined before getting out the door by deciding to cast the everpresent narrator as a faggy wannabe gameshow announcer instead of as a dry/gravelly old man like the JP one.
