There's been multiple points where they have picked up on Selen's convos or started their own convo loops. This makes me think you're not actually watching.
There's a difference between "no dead air" and "flooding the air with inane shit". Which is fine, I know some people love this, but it's not for everyone. I don't find it entertaining and it borders on annoying because it's repetitive.
I think a good example of actually filling the air with interesting convos would be any of the Tempus Apex collabs with rpr. I had a great time listening to them just shoot the shit and talk about their lives, and they didn't need to talk every second to fill every second. I think part of it was also because Apex is just a slower paced game than Overwatch, so there's more time for people to talk to each other and get their bearings. It's not like Overwatch where you have to stay focused most of the time.

When I sit down to watch a vtuber, I want the constant action and conversation, because I don't have a lot of time before I finish my meal and have to get back to my work. Thus, I watch Selen.
But there are others who prefer more casual, airy stream that they can put on in the background
And still others in-between.
The trouble with collabs is you potentially have two styles intermingling, and one usually ends up superceding the other.
I suppose it's more of a problem with my tastes not matching with the vibe of the stream, than a legitimate problem with the content

Yeah, I'm usually someone who puts a stream on in the background while I do other work, so we have fundamentally different ways of consuming streams. Which is fine really, that's why different vtubers are popular for different reasons.
In the end it seems both Mumei and Selen had fun so I'm okay with it enough I reckon it wasn't the ideal stream for either of our tastes. Anyway your oshi is pretty okay, I don't dislike her or anything, she's just not for me. Enjoy your night.
