There are 379 FULLTIME EMPLOYEES for 72 streamers.
Yes, you heard right.
FULL TIME.
On average, every Hololive streamer has to pay the salaries of FIVE (5) OTHER FUCKING PEOPLE
If every branch had proportional representation, the EN girls alone (Council + Myth) would have a support team of FIFTY.

Their entire business model exists because of the girls.
If anything, them turning the JP girls into merch machines without even expecting them to stream is even more sad. It's like the videogame business model, where you build something good and once you gain an audience, you move on to pure marketing and monetization and let your product stagnate completely.

Wasn't Niji closer to 180? I'm sure I remember seeing that figure somewhere.

Also, Nijisanji have in-house 3D riggers/artists and in-house 2D riggers of outsourced outfits. They likely have more staff in the studio, too, as their 3D studio gets utilised pretty much weekly. There is also a possibility that there are separate staff in charge of their VTA program.

By all accounts, AnyColor should have way more staff than Cover do because they do more themselves, for more members, and are juggling multiple projects. I knew Cover had more staff but I didn't realise it was fucking double.

I'll give you that they may also have 3D riggers (or, at the very least, asset creators for 3D content), but I'm not so sure about the music/voice stuff.

First and foremost, voice packs are pretty much bread and butter Niji merch alongside copy-paste birthday trinkets. There's a new set every 4-6 weeks and, even though staff provide them with scripts, lots of Livers tend to write their own if they feel like the staff hasn't got their personality right. There can't be more than a small handful of writers on NijiEN, and they not only have twice the members in the branch, but release dozens more voice packs.

As for music, I'm not sure what your angle is. Nijisanji has both more non-sponsored and sponsored concerts on a yearly basis, and they also have more members signed on with record labels (which no doubt scales the size of their legal team). Hell, AnyColor announced their own record label last month.

As a private company that ultimately offers a lot less in return to their customers, it's a shock that there's nearly 400 people siphoning wages from the lucrativity of the talents.

A 30% of them probably are the the ones who approves the decision to approve a decision that has already been approved by other guys, that only makes the work being more restricitve and slower, for example mojan and minecraft are an example of that, where 1 modder in his house can make the work that they make in 1 year in 1 day, what is truly stupid for a big company.

This is less about being cover and more about being japanese. Japanese companies love to hire a bunch of people without any serious idea of what they're going to do with these people. They do it because it makes them look good to have big numbers, because they can afford it, and because they genuinely believe that it'll somehow work out and those employees will somehow bring in profit. Look who we've seen Cover ditch so far.
Rushia, Coco and Aloe.
Rushia committed an egregious breach of contract, jeapardised the safety of other talents and company confidential information.
Coco basically got a golden handshake and a goodbye because keeping her on was too difficult for the company due to chinks becoming obsessed with hating on her.
Aloe was just completely fucking menhara.

So Rushia's contract was cancelled with cause. There's likely a clause in the contract specifically stating that they can end it if certain conditions are met. Letting a muckraker into the company Discord is definitely going to be covered there.

Coco. Almost certainly got a payout because there wasn't cause but there was a lot of hassle connected to keeping her.

Aloe I forget the full story of. She leaked company property I recall hearing? And just generally was too crazy to cut it. She likely fell afoul of a probationary period clause.

The hololive brand does a LOT if businesses and events with other companies all around Japan.

They do so many product events and tie-ins that I've started seeing them in so many different media: magazines, tv, in-store materials, promo goods, even convenience store trinkets (free note books or clear folders for buying certain ¥ amount in snacks)

They've become a multimedia company pushing their brand of characters and character goods into many different markets, so that means having a large workforce to handle all the aspects of business dealings, logistics, managements, etc

...So do Anycolor. They'll actually have an AR/VR experience for the concert at the end of the year, and there are plenty of interviews with tech engineers discussing what they're doing.

The only unique thing Cover is doing is making that video game, and the only unique things Anycolor is doing is launching their own record label and handling VTA. Everything else isn't special at all because they're both tech companies.

Nobody would even bat an eye at the number of employees if not for the fact that Hololive haven't done anything of note with it and have in fact not only slowed down, but their ability to get their talents permissions to play games has fallen out of its own ass. I'd much prefer 5 or 6 people working around the clock to give the Holo's more games to play than 50+ working on a shitty Genshin asset flip to sell to fans of streamers who don't stream.

As much as I hate to say it, I think NijiEN management is more competent because JP is hands-off with them for the most part. Obviously, it’s easier for them to do that because targeting normalfags who want to see streamers with avatars act like normalfags is their model.
I unironically think that HoloEN gets half their ideas blocked by management because they think all of those ideas are the same as “allow collabs with males”. Ironically, they probably did allow collabs with males because they thought it’d work like HoloJP, where nobody gives a shit that Sora and Fubuki collab with males.
They seriously underestimated how much Mori, Kronii, and Ame have personalities closer to NijiEN than HoloEN. And how much not at least having more streamers to cover up their flaws would have helped.

i can see that cover is starting to hard into their character goods branding, so them being more strict with streamer activities is just a safer option for them.

a few other japan dwellers have shared their experience in this thread, and the fact is that cover is starting to use their character branding as something like what sanrio, san-x are doing (hello kitty, rilakkuma, gudetama, sumikko gurashi, etc).
they're cute characters that they will do tie-ins with whatever other companies to produce and sell all kinds of goods and promotions.

because of that, the importance of the marketability of those characters just shoot way up into the stratosphere.
they're probably ok with the livestreamers themselves having less rights in order to keep their brand clean and kosher for mass consumption. (irl equivalent of being "ad-friendly")

that's what you get when you sign for hololive i guess, cover ultimately owns the characters, brands, names, likenesses

>why should EN viewers give a shit about JP sponsorships
>EN is just a side branch
Anons, I think these two are connected. The side branches are side branches because they don’t get connected enough to JP. They seriously need to hire more than one talent who knows Japanese. At least two for each gen or something, because when they don’t do collabs with the original branch, the brand appeal is nothing more than a name.
The benefit of knowing Japanese isn’t in appealing to your fans, it’s in being able to collab with JP vtubers. It’s not intuitive, so I don’t blame Bae or Kiara or irys or Anya for not realizing that. You don’t use Japanese when you’re streaming to your regular audience, and then you do use it for collabs with JP.
I’m becoming more and more convinced that this is why they suffer from eternal “side branch” status. I *think* it’s not as bad for ID because just knowing westerners have heard of your oshi is exciting enough. For EN, streamers are just normal, anime’s normal enough that the avatar isn’t enough anymore. Anyway, that’s my rrat, I’m trying to figure out how HoloEN can revive itself without just trying to turn into another NijiEN.

We’re talking about anime here, so I doubt self-censoring is a huge issue for the most part, since a lot of that shit is more for Karens who just hate how “lewd” JP media is. If anything, I suspect it’s just doing promotional work takes time out of streaming. Accepting these deals probably makes more money for the chuuba herself and the company, so turning down too many of them just makes you look like a dick and makes the company decide you’re not worth putting effort into compared to your genmates.

Them convincing Council they knew what the fuck they were doing is probably what will sink the branch (if that ultimately happens).
If I wanted to go into more conspiratorial mode and start throwing out rrats with less evidence, this would be why Gura hates Mori I have no idea if she does, this is a hypothetical She’s starting to realize she’ll never be like HoloJP, and it’s mostly Mori’s fault. imagine you're part of the business part of cover and your team just closed a deal to produce a line of apparel with uniqlo or school accessories with one of the supermarket corpos.

then suddenly the cute bunny girl that has been printed on 100,000 cotton t-shirts goes into a yab so big it makes it into the evening news, newspaper, tabloid magazines, social media, etc.

now thanks to the liability clause in the contract, cover will take a huge financial blow and uniqlo will never sign another deal with them again.
other manufacturer corpos also see this news and will avoid the hololive brand will become greylisted in the business.

compared to taking that risk, restricting what the streamers can do seems like a cheap price to pay, especially since their fans already love them so much that 10k+ will still tune in and super and member just for empty talk zatsudan and recycled karaoke themes

aloe's contract breach was minor --accidentally leaking her 2D, and in any case Cover didn't terminate, but gave her a short suspension for it.

Before the suspension was over, she was allowed to graduate at her own request because she was folding under the pressure of harassment/doxxing, in turn (apparently) because of comments she'd made --before joining Hololive-- about another vtuber's troubles with another company, as well (apparently) as the fact that she once had a boyfriend.

I think there's better options they could have gone for.
There's a VR metaverse game thats been completely fucked by its two owners squabbles. But still has a pretty loyal following due to the extreme versatility of the toolset within it.
Cover could have easily swooped in to buy that out from under them then used it as the base for HoloEarth and quite possibly have used that as a means to catapult themselves big into the VR worlds space.
But I suspect as Cover has grown its lost a lot of the flexibility and drive that it had when it was just Yagoo. It's now an idol company not a next generation entertainment company.

You know how embedded devs earn less than people working on cloud/web stuff despite the languages and knowledge base being much harder? This happens because hardware companies treat software engineers on the same level as assembly line workers, since that’s all the boomer management knows. That’s the same thing that happens in a lot of JP corps, software devs are viewed as cogs in the machine, no different from someone laying bricks, as opposed to technical graduates in a competitive field.

There’s also the usual JP autism, apparently software lost ‘prestige’ after the Lisp AI boom in the late 80s didn’t pan out, and 40 years later nip middle managers are still using it as an excuse to pay software devs less, since they ‘can’t be trusted’.

Many people working in offices aren't actually productive employees, but because measuring their contribution with hard numbers is often very difficult (or foggy due to team projects), it has become a major issue for many companies.

Just an example I'm personally familiar with, the company here used to have a split of around 80 / 20 of manufacturing employees to office workers / management many years ago. Now, they have around the same number of total employees, the manufacturing productivity has gone up considerably (even though the stuff here can't yet be automated), but the split now is 20 / 80. Jobs that used to take 1 office worker, like HR, are now being done by 5 people with half of their work being outsourced. It's absolutely infuriating.

For example, right now I am proposing a very small change to enhance the user experience. They don’t just tell me “sounds good do it!” they let me write reports after reports about extensive study of the feature and market study risk analysis change analysis profit analysis similar feature rolled in different sites and how it affected them demographic analysis and so on and on (which is also bad imo, I think one report is enough)

itt: clueless westoids thinking that cover is just a vtubing company, unaware of all the material world businesses they're doing with their hololive branding every day, every week, every month, all year long

you think that Lawson convenience store collaboration goods was just an overnight phone call by yagoo, like "Hey Mr Lawson, make some clear folders and notebooks to give away at your stores, here put these artworks of my wolf girl and fox girl on them"?

heck no, the proposal was probably drafted last year.
then it was presented to stakeholders (may or may not include yagoo).
then it was struck down and asked for amendments.
then there were hundreds of manhours of meetings to iron out the details.
then they send 2 or 3 business lackeys to the Lawson business offices to meet and present their proposal.
repeat this a few times until everything is mostly agreed upon and it's time to send their ace business person to close the deal.
once that's finalized, the logistics and manufacturing can begin, while they wait for back and forth communications with Mr Lawson to sync up their timing and scheduling.

now imagine this, but multiply by how many other business projects they have going on in the company.
the majority of them never see the light of day (rejected by cover's own stakeholders, or rejected by the businesses they're reaching out to, or falling through halfway, etc)

now that you have a rough idea of how many people are involved in doing many different things on many different projects, you need to multiply that by at least 0.1~0.15 to get the manpower needed for legal, finances, accounting, office administration, payroll, HR, and other misc stuff needed to keep a big office functioning.

Cover only cares about revenue and they get more of that from Japan but they are smothering the golden goose that is holoEN through mismanagement. They could have helped holoEN weather the global recession had they supported the EN branch but they keep cutting costs instead. This is part of the reason why the number of holoEN viewers is shrinking.

Cover's failure with Live2D 3.0 shows that they do need to focus more on vtubers. How many of the hololive talents used their Live2D 3.0 model a few times and never used it again? There is an opportunity cost when they spend money on projects aren't related to vtubers like an MMO game that could take years to finish with uncertain results.
