He's firing all the people who work on Twitter behind the scenes and thinking he can have like ten people do the job of hundreds. Massive loss of institutional knowledge like that takes years to recover (and costs a fuckton more than what it cost to keep the people on). There should be other authors or artists you can actually connect and network with. I think you people are giving the general public too much credit. How many legacy websites have been "boycotted" and nothing really happened? I think YouTube gets boycotted every other week. Even Tumblr with their porn ban still limped along and now its making a comeback. The last time I recall a boycott actually sticking was with Digg and that was long ago during more volatile times on the internet.

It's a return to form, if anything. Maybe it'll actually be used for its intended purpose now. There is literally nothing stopping you from using Twitter for free instead of paying for a checkmark, just like there's nothing stopping you from using 4chan free instead of with a 4chan pass.

Musks idea is kind of retarded.

The way it SHOULD work is kind of like youtube. You can subscribe to a twitter account, and pay them a bit of money. Twitter only takes a fraction of it, like maybe 10%. That way people actually earn money on Twitter. This has the side benefit of establishing a new payment network that breaks the paypal monopoly
