I don't really get small corpos, they're like the worst of both worlds. If you want good vtubers that are constrained by management (mostly good, sometimes bad) and have great events, a strong fandom and a fun vtuber bubble you watch the better parts of Hololive.

I wonder how expensive it would be to start up a small corpo.
I have an idea for a small corpo I'd like to start, but I'm just some normal dude without a business degree. But I do have 15k in "disposable" savings just sitting in my bank.

Doing some quick math, I could buy 3 models with rigging from decent well known artists for around probably 6-7k. Being connected to the artist would offer probably as good as advertisement as anything else. Because lets be honest, nobody actually learns about vtuber organizations from website ads or youtube ads, 90% of the time it seems to come from interconnection of agencies and from other streamers.

Website and some graphics design might also cost a bit, but I don't see it as being overly expensive. Neither would basic incorporation.

But not really sure what other costs there would be, and what running costs would be with a bare bones agency to start. If it was just 3 talents and me, and had all of them working solely on commission essentially, that'd be the end of the costs minus any extra spent for ads and other promotions. But I imagine there has to be more to it.
Plus I imagine anyone joining a corp this late in the game is expecting something more than just a free model and some initial set up.

Well you have to look at what small corpos provide for their talents (for example reinvesting some of the company cut back into the talents and taking care of all logistics for merch) and you have to at least have a plan to provide that too if you want to be a competitive option. My actually full desire would be the have most of it being self sufficient which would be my biggest issue starting out.

Ideally I'd do a 50/30/20 cut, with 50% going to the talent, 30% corp costs(aka staffing and additional costs), and 20% being reinvested into the group. With 30% being partially my cut but mainly going toward say managers and miscellaneous staff and needs. Naturally subject to change as things move forward, and needs might change. (For example I would actually like a greater amount going toward reinvestment and less on staffing/talent) and early on especially if I'm handling the management roles then I could cut back on those costs and focus on reinvestment.
but like at the start especially, it'd be hard to convince someone to work as a manager for piss change, so with lower earnings might need to take a bigger cut for that. And I feel a decent manager is needed for what I want, especially since I already work full time.

And I'd like if anything the company provides could come from that pool of money as well, so things like being able to commission people to make MVs, or to set up initially funding for merch (though this can partially be handled through pre-orders which indies tend to do)

But you know that fantasy aside, knowing full well its probably not realistic.
But doing math on Uruka real quick, using playboard and assuming she makes double listed (due to donations which seem to happen more than SCs for smaller corps), it means at a 30% cut that's around $240 (pre-cuts and taxes) a week for staffing costs from uruka alone.
However, she's a relatively mid level vtuber in a well known small corpo with a year of history going for her and not someone starting out. and once you take in other cuts and taxes, that becomes pretty low even for a part time job.

and while I would like to make this happen, it would basically mean asking for 3 streamers willing to work essentially for free (since i doubt they'll earn much in a reasonable time frame) once provided a model, but adhere to company guidelines. and hope someone will be willing to part time manage for extremely low payment, or hope the talents are willing to take a decent load themselves which defeats a large purpose for most people joining a corp.

definitely feels more like a lottery dream than an actual idea.
