MGS4 has its own themes too, which it builds in as much of a concentrated effort as the previous games.

It IS very concerned with wrapping the narrative up and putting an end to everything.
But that in and of itself is in service of its core themes.
However it does mean a lot of players get too caught up in detangling the web of plotlines and twists that they miss what MGS4 is really about. It's something a lot of people probably need to play twice to fully get, but a lot of people don't give it that grace.

MGS4 is a masterpiece. Someday people will understand, just like MGS2.
