I tried doing something nice for someone that did something nice for me and the next day they mentioned offhand that such things only made them sad. I don't even think they were talking about what I did, just the feeling that I have been only making things worse with my good intentions is what's eating me. It really doesn't help that I'd been debating on doing it for weeks beforehand precisely because I was afraid it'd have that kind of reaction but I decided to take the risk anyway.
It really doesn't help that I did a selfish, moody thing yesterday and when the person it involved saw it they reacted so positively. They can love something I did selfishly just to get something out of my system, it almost doesn't feel fair. I should be happy that they liked it regardless but I don't know, I guess I feel guilty about it.

I guess the tl;dr is the realization that the only people I can't make happy are myself and the one person I want to cheer up the most.

Okay, I've run the experiment. I picked a single low viewership streamer with a compatible scheduled and watched for three weeks, coming by whenever she streamed, chatting actively and engaging, learning about her and her life, her likes, paying attention through the majority of the stream.
