I'm going to explain this for all the TBAs:

All previous actors and actresses in entertainment history have suffered the curse of being identified as their characters. Women who play villains on soap operas often get shit on in real life because most of their viewers are retarded and can't get the actors are literally getting paid to play a character.

Now, thanks to the miracle of technology, you won't have to. You can make your character an alcoholic and then (sort of) leave that joke behind once you're reincarnated.
But by mixing your real life with the character you've created ("Why does an alien dragon from Mars have such a strong opinion about Earth's fiscal policies?") you're denying yourself the chance to start over. The same goes for your real-life relationships. Your character won't end up breaking up with your boyfriend, YOU WILL. It will happen to your character if you choose it to happen to your character. By mixing the two, you will never be able to escape your real life problems by streaming. (Why is "XXXX" not here today? Why did you delete all the Discord emojis of "XXXX"? Why? But why?)

tl;dr: If you want to stream as yourself and do face reveals, better go back to 3D.

I browsed it back in 2021 when all the spam and tripfag circlejerking was in full force and then there were idiots flooding over due to hololive and /wvt/ and shit. It was the personal shithole of indies, holofags, /auds/, viewers, inclining etc. Nobody ever discussed anything and instead just circlejerked over how Chuubas are epic win and how they shit on the floor every day. Some of it was amusing but the board as a whole was fucking garbage. I've barely even been there in the past two months or so besides to check how far things have fallen.

The western indie scene is still driven by word of mouth. How do you learn about new vtubers? You hear about them on socials, they get talked about on stream, get posted on boards, etc.
It is very likely that they aren't streaming the exact moment someone finds out about them. So once I hear about an interesting chuuba, I check their twitter to see what their general vibe is and if I can catch their next stream. If I see no schedule, I quickly lose interest.

more people really need to archive their VODs on youtube. I really get the feeling at times that people get told Twitch is better and just 100% jump ship without realizing that twitch is better for live streams but infinitely worse for archival purposes. Use both platforms to their greatest extent. Depending on the chuber there is quite the consensus on who of the /here/ is based and who is a shitter, yet the actual /here/ seem to be quite liberal with who they collab with, including both the shitters and nobodies.

The ghostbin is a reference for people who are discussed here and on the front desk, it is for the benifit of newfags. That is its purpose, full stop. Its not a favorites list, its not supposed to be tiered for popularity, its not meant primarily for promotion although that is a side effect of its existence
I will take some of the valid critique and do some discription re-edits tonight. A lot of the current discriptors were hold-overs from the preveous version of the list, and although I removed a ton of ESL writing and shitty in-jokes already, some were missed
Yuusha might have been a bit of an early add, but I had seen a bit of buzz related to him in the lead up to my last edit and thought the relation to other chuubas such as Stalker and Kongou justified the addition

I honestly didn't see that much good criticism. Not criticism that couldn't be good, but criticism that wasn't good because it lacked any context or proper narrative theory.

Most of the discussion that night was about how there is some one-size-fits all overlay for literally every chuuba, which is some dumb as fuck random high school armchair design theorist bullshit right there.

The problem is almost all, if not all, of the criticism was made without an understanding of the chuuba's content or their focus.

I even saw people criticize Rummy, Coqui and Krimbo for having overlays that deemphasized the game and emphasized their avatars + sewer/grunge/punk aesthetic they have. Even though that is exactly what they should be doing since their content is primarily based around their excellent performances and acting, their world building, and their aesthetic. The shitty games they happen to be turning into an epic experience are not really the focus of their content.

The medium is the message. It's literally design and user experience 101. Titty streamers don't get popular because they hide their tits in a tiny window in the background and maximise the game. They know what is selling their content and they design around that.

You need to know what, exactly, are the strengths and weaknesses of their content so you can min/max that.

Apologies for the rant but this kind of thing is my pet peeve and that discussion was over by the time read it.

Just so you guys know, there is one big downside to donating via streamlabs. Twitch subs, bits, and gifted subs actually help boost you in Twitch's recommended algorithm. Plus, they contribute to hype trains which are a great way for people to get more donations (hype trains are also a big boost to the algo). Whereas a donation through an outside source won't do any of that.

A good while ago it was a commonly shared sentiment that it's perfectly fine to just stream with a png as long as you just go and create content. Test shit, get your tech in order, get your rhythm going and learn to prevent dead air, just practice practice practice without thinking too hard on your avatar. I'm don't think that opinions have changed on this much, though personally I think before you really start getting into it make sure that you really are paving your way towards a proper avatar if you intend to get one. Being stuck with a png for half a year or longer may put a bit of a damper on your motivation to keep building yourself up.

Or you could go the little_s route and go all in on being a pngtuber.
