Yeah, it's something I've learned over years of following actors, directors, writers, heck even popular YouTubers. The best example I could think of was with the writers for the Animaniacs. Essentially they got a good team of adult writers but they were given a children's show to work so they couldn't do as many adult jokes as they wanted. So, they had to get creative with the show's jokes in order to still get something across they air under the noses of TV execs.

This. Limiting creative freedom helps you become more creative. Actual, real artists use this as a fucking mantra. Full creative freedom doesn't exist and is a myth.
Having creative freedom with no constraints just makes you spiral into all kinds of directions, stagnating and going nowhere and you eventually just despair. Whereas having your creative freedom limited will help you come up with new, creative ways to deliver your work and keep things fresh at the same time. Constraints are necessary for creative work. Without constraints nothing happens.
Even if you're doing something as simple as a personal art project it's still smart and helpful to have constraints.

It's that feeling of being surrounded by idiots and just wanting people to piss off so you can do what you will. Others don't have that clear, defined vision, motivation or ambition and generally go with the flow. That's also fine.

I think creativity ultimately stems from just clearing off the table that is your soul, deciding what it is you'd like to focus on, and trying to focus on, hone and improve that as a niche. Restrictions artificially do that, but taking a step back and restricting oneself is also possible.
