As an Indonesian myself, i'll answer. It's not worth it unless you want to live permanently or work in Indonesia for a long time. Indonesia's culture is not that famous worldwide like east asian countries like China, Japan and Korea. We don't export our entertainment or culture massively like three countries above. If they want to learn Indonesian just for fun or any other reasons then good for them, otherwise better just learn English, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin or Japanese.

Learning a language thats in the same family is much easier than a forign one. For example English to German, Or French to Italian. Jumping cold turkey into another language family is jarring for new people (why JP to EN seems so hard for many chuubas)
