When Hololive went viral and started picking up more and more people, they realized how profitable it was to just go for the lonely people audience and that's basically when interactions mostly stopped.
Gen 3 I think was the last gen that outright collabed with Nijis, that infamous Among Us collab where Rushia brought Mito's stalker, outside of that its been a few outliers like Towa for her Apex shit and Polka for obvious reasons.

In the early days Nintendo put some of its games on PC.
That doesn't happen anymore, the mere notion that Nintendo should put its newest Mario title on PC would be absurd.
But it was a thing once upon a time.
I feel like JP interactions are in a similar state.
They can't just say NO MORE INTERACTION FROM NOW ON, because they were a thing before, they were already happening so to take them away would be too weird.
But they can say "no interactions for the new branch" because it's a fresh start from 0.
Not wanting rival companies to interact makes perfect sense, they are for all intents and purposes enemies. Maybe when vtubing was small and there were very few members overall and the industry needed to help itself grow it made sense for them to interact.
But now both companies have a massive amount of members and a huge audience, they don't need to cooperate to be successful anymore.

Newer gens don't have that necessity since they have 50+ holos to collab with, and more gen unity.
