also since they have shown no prior desire and we cannot measure desire afterwards until some actual lore startes getting written by them, what exactly does their input mean for issues?

one way to help give some more leeway would be to have actual trips for mediators, that way if someone that, for whatever reason, that has been goen for a while comes back to vote we at least know who this person is and know that this person has in fact contributed to the world and lore before so we also knwo this person has an actual interest in improving thigns through votes

Okay, so as the one hosting the current vote, can I get a rundown on how people feel about the requirements for a rep's vote to count? From what I've seen, there are three votes that could be contested.

I counted theirs last time, although removing it wouldn't change any of the outcomes, because they had something in the lore archive and the vote concerned them. I also don't want to punish reps that aren't able to contribute as much for whatever reason or choose to mostly remain anonymous.

Technically they're not a nation yet, so one could argue that they shouldn't get a vote, but imo it seems silly to exclude them especially when they have contributors clearly participating in the threads.

This one is the iffiest to me, since they are brand new and haven't had any time to establish themselves yet. They've apparently lurked, so their decisions aren't being made cluelessly, but we don't know if they'll end up sticking around or leaving in a week and possibly saddling others with outcomes they didn't want.

So my question to you all is what kind of precedent do we want to set here? Should there be a set waiting period before you're allowed to vote? Should you have to have contributed a certain amount? Should you have to be currently active? Let me know what you guys think about how these votes should be handled.

I think a good policy is for reps to explain the reason for voting a certain way if unclear to us, lest we punish those who cant contribute much at the time or have remained anonymous or someone who has done their reps and lurked. I agree reps should be able to vote in votes that concern themselves, regardless of how visibly active they are. However, I do not think warkop's vote should count this time. They might have been anonymously participating in conversations, they might not. But it's hard to gauge their interest in the project when they have not talked about their plans for their nation at all and their only lore entry is a 4 sentence stub.

This one is tough. The anon seems interested and they do seem to have lurked given their familiarity with customs, but they're so new that as you said, it's hard to judge their commitment. I say their vote should not count this time on account of them literally only having been here a single day and the vote not being relevant to them.

Again, it's tough. I think there does need to be some proof of commitment to the project's wellbeing, but it's hard to say where that line should be drawn. I don't really support the idea of nations needing to fulfill all the prompts. It forces world building in a specific direction, stifling the creativity that comes from 4chan's million monkeys on typewriters format which is one if the things that makes this project interesting.

i feel there needs to be some threshold in some way. i don't think limiting it to time is the right way but at least some contribution must be recognizable if you want to participate in active votes.

if you want to mainly stay anonymous that is fine but if your own nation got nothing really build up and you never speak up for your own nation when stuff about it does come up then coming out of the woodworks just to participate in votes is weird.

the most iffy in that regard to me is /warkop/, if this was /sakuran/ then it would be different even if they could not partake too actively for a while and stay anon for most of it they at least got some stuff set up before.

in the case of /kr/ i feel they should first establish themselves because while they might have lurked before they also kind of got lost very quickly on what to actually do and seemed to lack some understanding of basic rules so i think in their case too it would be better to first establish themselves in soem capacity and participate in votes.

i would say the same about /mans/ if not for the fact that their mediator also got cunt to fall back on who has been in here for a while and can support him.

They've only been on Vitubia for a very short time so a lot of citizens might not know much aside from what they read from the news and gossip despite us being the nation whom they have the most contact with. Things have been dying down since that battle that probably kicked off the Age of Sail in holosea, but raids likely still happens at some corners, especially unsanctioned ones. It also really depends on how vivid your imagination is, me thinks. Since I can picture scenes down to the smallest details, I really only need to speak the dialogue out loud and imagine how the characters would emote to see whether it would work. Depending on how your imagination is, you might need to actually get up and try acting out the scene in a way. Also always keep in mind what kind of character you are trying to portray. If it's a big burly old man with a constant stink eye, don't sit in your chair like a princess while you are making a mental image of him, but bend forward, lean on your knees, make a mean mug while you speak. If it's a fancy pants character, make hand gestures while you talk, keep your chin up, small smirk, all that fun stuff. Really immerse yourself into the character.

But also, as deadbeat said, just practice. Nobody is perfect on the first try, and that's ok. We learn from that, and grow as a result.

Good question, I think the most obvious issue is that if the /meat/ ship knows it got a very high value target (like Wentli and others that pertains to their religion), then it stands to reason that they'll hope to deliver the cargo to safety ASAP, which makes baiting them into an attack difficult. I would say it's easier if the target's value is on the /morig/ side instead i.e. the target is valuable to the Deadbeats, but not necessarily to the /meat/heads.
With that, the /meat/ ship will be more inclined to attack ships they consider to be vulnerable to further increase their profit. Ships that look damaged, understaffed, or otherwise unprepared for boarding actions would be their prime target, so some kind of disguise that can create a similar image would make them more tantalising. Perhaps some kind of cargo ships (which tend to have a smaller and less armed crew) for goods that /meat/heads value (maybe not VIP, both to avoid rehashing this element, and because /meat/heads know VIP transport will be well-defended)?

That's sensible. Maybe a successful raid snatches a VIP, but the /meat/heads don't know, think it's just some Deadbeat. Word of the raid gets back to a base ahead of any ship through messenger bird (Or catalognaut?) comms, and a plan is formulated to put a cargo ship with a squad of Black Fleet stowaways on the path of the raider ship. This would have to all be done with fairly short notice, so the soldiers would have to be whoever is closest instead of elite operatives. You still have to isolate the target ship from the rest of the fleet. Depending on the fleet's size it may not be possible depending on the formation and coordination. It really depends on your intelligence and preparation for the mission. Which those cost money. The higher value your target, the more resources it costs to capture.
