Vshoujo as you cited and hololive have two very different ways of working, one being more profesional focused while the other working as pesudo indie, many people is wary as some vshoujos have been politically active and openly dislike the kind of culture formed aroudn hololive. As you see it's a matter of compatibility, and as much as fanbases may overlap, the one paying the bills isn't the one overlapping.

Unless you have some magical scheme to get all the gachikois girlfriends and socialization you're probably implying something alone the lines of cutting them off from a company and fanbase by pressuring the vtubers involved to change the content produced.
But that's just sweeping the problem under the rug. The gachikois won't go away, they'll just go to a rival company with less qualms about milking them, which will not only actively work against your efforts but even twist them to its purposes, and eventually become dominant. Now you're back to the same position you started, but with a more recalcitrant beast to break to your will.
Look at Tumblr losing 1/3 of its users after the porn ban - the coomers didn't just say "oh well let's be less horny", they left for greener pastures. Look at Facebook which not only gives less fucks about privacy than every social network before them but also actively spearheads initiatives to misinform their users.
Efforts like this accelerate corporate natural selection until you end up with the stereotypical might-as-well-be-evil corporation at the top, whereupon people like you throw up your hands in despair and quietly leave after all the damage is done.

Not really how sports work, or most industries for that matter. There is a hard-core fanbase who are guaranteed customers and are often the people who channel talent into the sport, such as boxing super fans who buy every fight and put their kids into gyms. But they're a small share of the profits over all and there's no need to market to them. Most entertainment industries are forever chasing the mainstream, who are worth oceans of money, rather than appeal to the superfans, who can be very demanding and aren't as easily duped by marketing. Plus just plain ol being a small group of people. Much of what I've said applies to music, video games, TV, etc.

This doesn't really compare to the mentally ill whale of Chinese MMOs and gachi games who singlehandedly make the whole enterprise profitable. That is a unique and troubled business model. The whale is a strange creature, full of complaints and demands but having no actual discernment or taste. Just totally consumed by consumption. I don't know if these people presently control vtubing but my guess is that if they don't, Cover wouldn't mind if they do. And are just looking for the right way to sell them shit. You can truly pump whales forever and don't have to worry about becoming uncool or passe with the mercurial tastes of the mainstream.
