Am I the only one who hates western Vtubers for the reason that they arent, ya know. Acting like the lore or something? They just keep talking about their lives and not saying shit like "Well here in shitsville we don't really know earth customs but if that's how it works then I shall do that!" They just use the current trend to make themselves interesting but they arent. They are just shallow camwhores.

PS: Im sure japanese ones do this too but it's mostly teh west

I'd describe myself as more indifferent towards them than hateful, but yeah I agree. The concept of vtubing as these virtual characters in a virtual space is what I initially found interesting but it's harder to find western vtubers like that nowadays. I think it's because people are lonely and want to feel like they're socializing in some capacity, whereas the Japanese are more content with escapism.

Yea I do miss that era of vtubing where they maintained the aspect of not breaking the 4th wall. I remember when Kizuna AI made a whole video about how lonely she was in the white void. Also I don’t understand these vtubers that have such elaborate lore at debut and then immediately talk about their lives making all the lore pointless

I think having lore to begin with is cringe. Like you said, it's not like they're trying to keep up a facade about being from another world, so why bother with some half-assed "myth" or "council" aesthetic that doesn't last past the debut stream?

Didnt Kizuna AI just put out prerecorded videos? It would be a lot easier to maintain kayfabe when you dont need to talk for hundreds of hours in front of an audience. And Kizuna being full 3D all the time added to the believability - live 2D is kinda like 'ok you arent fooling anyone'

Lore is good for having consistent presentation and being able to throw is a thematic joke every once in a while.
But incorporating it into *everything* you do and say is a terrible idea, and is insulting to viewer's intelligence.
We're all aware that vtuber is just a normal person with animated avatar, and not actually some mythical being or whatever.
