Does anyone here do any prep before going live? So far, I've just hit the "Start Streaming" button on OBS and jumped straight into playing some rounds of Apex. Is that bad? I'm not really sure what I should be paying attention to if I want to grow my channel more since I'm still just starting out.

I don't really have anything. I have a static "stream is starting soon" image, but I don't see the point in using that. All of the people I see who use it have people in chat who hang out and talk with one another before the stream gets underway. Only viewer is myself on the Twitch dashboard.

I just check audio and such before. Starting, I give some silent time for the stream to start and confirm that it's live. Then start my recording and give a short energetic intro to what I did last time if I played the game before and what I'm planning to do today. If I had people chatting I would give some time to start, but I don't usually, so I just open with the game going and ready.

I was considering the idea of vtubing in Spanish, but fellow Spanish speakers seem to only bring drama be in chat or with other vtubers, but I've decided to stick with English as I don't have as many chances to speak in the language as I do when I have to write it. However I want to make my Japanese learning process part of my streams. The truth I don't believe I have many talents that I can stream aside from videogames, so besides that I wanted to make my Japanese learning as a journey of sorts. I'm not exactly a good actor or anything so I'm not sure I can pull a specific character, so I wonder if I should try vtubing at all or just be a regular streamer.
Also, what do you guys think of collabs with male vtubers/streamers? I have a couple friends I'd like to stream/collab with but I feel like it's a fucking taboo with some while others don't mind it.

Anybody here do prerecorded content like discussion videos or whatnot?

I did one last night (still editing it) and it's giving me a huge case of imposter syndrome. The whole thing feels artificial and like I'm trying too hard to replicate what I THINK discussion videos are supposed to be like rather than actually making the kind of content people want to watch.

If it's your first videos like that, they are going to be a little rough period. As long as you fix obvious errors, the only thing you can do is continue on and get better with time. So yeah it's half self-sabotage and half you seeing stiffness that can only be fixed with time and practice.

it would be ssooooo cool if I could make my character's expressions change as a 2d texture on the face?

probably not. hey I haven't touched blender in 6 years. AM I DO IF I go ahead and spend a few days making a 3d model did I do a good one and it will provide me with a means by which to eventually get on the right track or will I have stepped on my own feets and that is not how to do it. I guess if I want a variety of facial expressions then I need to can I make it without a face and make the face change through textures?

It's decently in depth, takes you along at a decent speed, and links you to a lot of further resources you can use if you're interested in further feminizing your voice. Despite being

r/transvoice is a pretty good place for this sort of stuff. I've been following this guide for about a month and I can make a voice that is considerably softer and more believable. Luckily for me, I'm just going for a femenine boy/androgynous voice, but if you want full on girl it might take perhaps a year or more of committed training. There's also a lot of good resources out there in the web to find. Google is your friend. And at the end of the day, you can always use voice changers to help you out, though I wouldn't recommend relying on them them as a crutch.

don't worry about attention begging. As long as you're not literally asking for their attention, feel free to reply to as many VTubers as you'd like. Most people like to get responses to their tweets, probably more than likes and even retweets. The one thing to keep in mind is to make it feel natural. Don't force yourself to reply to every tweet, only reply if you feel like you have something of value to add. As a fellow antisocial, I understand how hard it can be to put yourself out there. But trust me when I say things will get easier. The more you do it, the more natural it'll become.

Either networking or you're a twitter normie. Vtweeter's are pretty decent for networking because: A. They get a lot of interactions, so if you end up getting retweeted it might give you a boost. B. Once I de-rust on drawing and get more comfortable using my tablet, I'll do a redebut stream every few months with a new outfit, since hyping up special events like that gets a lot of eyeballs and I think it would be funny.

Somewhere before the first redebut I'll hop onto twitter and start archiving my old streams on youtube. I deleted a dozen terabytes of anime, so I've got plenty of space to store the streams locally until then.

Holos achieve this by basically having their chat under the game and having the game take up a slightly smaller 16:9 ratio than their actual stream size, then putting their model next to but not on their game

Have the same issue with the designing process, had a cute little design worked out and ready to be rigged but it didn't match my voice from what I was told.
I think in our cases, going for the older anime look would be pretty good, as it won't come off as too fujoshi and still look cool enough to appeal to a wider audience, at least that's the design I'm drawing up right now. I think another route would be a villain or hero theme, as a calm and soothing voice could work for either. That's all I got in the idea bank though

I hate my voice because it sounds high and annoying, so I'm going for a small squeaky animal

I'm not sure what small animals you're thinking of, unless all of the mice and hamsters near you huff sulfur hexaflouride. By which I mean, you sound completely normal, stop psyching yourself out.

Thanks! Then I suppose I'll be the most normal small animal.

I worry it sounds masculine and not feminine a ton of the time but some say it does not sound masculine but idek
