I tried to get into this but I just don't see the appeal of some anime girl drawing or just taking. Maybe it's not for me.

Its mountains of content and most of it is "3 hour drawing stream". Dude just gave me a 1h vtube lecture on jellyfish when I asked for a LP series.

If I want to get someone to watch xQc I'm going to say "Go watch his GTA RP content it's gold" not "Go watch a 3 hour video of him watching tiktoc memes" but that's all I'm getting with this vtube stuff. Or is this really all it is?

Botans Elden ring play through was great so was her Biohazard play through.

It's more about original content and LP's are usually the best medium.
Game Grumps chemistry ripping on awful videogames while struggling through them, cracking jokes, dying constantly to bullshit, if it was just the two sitting around and talking it would be boring.

Or someone playing an open ended game like Kenshi/Skyrim/Zomboid a unique way is also good content. thief only Kenshi LP, Zomboid but I can't touch grass, etc/
I want to see something unique not "person sitting talking about random crap or reading superchats" but thats all iv seen from vtubers.

I looked and it was cute but I could never watch more than 5 mins of this.
You can watch xQc for hours and it's going to be non-stop entertainment, with this video it's just a compilation of the best parts, and with most of these vtubers, the parts in between are just boring. What im seeing is if you like vtubers you are just better off watching clips because the streams are pretty mid.

His recent react content is crap, but a while ago he was on a private GTA online server, RPing with other big streamers, while the admins created custom content for everybody.
He would be trying to escape the cops and you could hop into the cop streamers channel and watch the chase from their prospective in real time.
That whole thing was fire.

Enna Alouette's play through of story-type games (A plague's tale, Lucius, Resident Evil 2 etc.) She's shit at video games, but makes up for it with her voice overs, and dark sarcastic humor.

She has really funny handcam streams too. I recommend watching her spicy noodle batsu stream.

The GTA RP streams were like nothing iv ever seen.
I was just saying xQc because he was the most popular criminal.
You'd see stuff like a group of crims take hostages (other players), then you could watch the crims try and break into the bank vault, or watch it from the hostage PoV, or watch the police planning on how they are going to save everybody, it was great content and it really made use of you being able to hop between streams.

I thought the vtubers would do something similar.

Part of the thing though is that to get the most from it you need to already be into it. A big part of the fun of the big collabs and the different POVs is that you're already a fan of them, you want to see the different pairings and how each person/group will react to the different summer festival attractions because you care about all of them, you care about the people who made the festival in the first place, and you followed it being built over months of streams.
It all ties back to the idol appeal, of following their career through ups and downs, their bumpy road to success, the drama that comes with it. The journey is the appeal.
The Miko WWE streams the other anon suggested are kino on their own, but the fact that it's the members and the specific pairings of members has a lot more value than "lol she's making the vtubers in WWE and making them fight each other". Her reactions to each tag team entry possibility and how they tied to Kanata and Marine specifically mean nothing if you're not familiar with Miko, Kanata or Marine. In terms of pure entertainment for its own sake, I feel like the musical side offers more, with the original songs and concerts, but you're not into that.

Unfortunately for me it just doesn't do it.
I really just wana turn my brain off and laugh along with people cracking jokes about awful/glitchy videogames or be impressed by some cool vidya project where the people are building there own story on top of the game.

Its really cool that you build all this attachment with the vtubers you like and I see why you would want to see the interactions.

For me with the GTA stuff I didn't even know who these people were, I just thought it was amazing that 100s of people were all roleplaying as GTA NPC's and got sucked in by the concept, not the individual streamer.
I could never get into anime but I still enjoyed stuff with a good story so I thought maybe theirs a good normi vtuber but I see this is a very personality driven thing and not a meta concept kinda thing like what im looking for.

Yeah, I think so too. This is just my opinion, though, and I'm sure other anons will strongly disagree with this, but I feel like vtubing relies heavily on parasocial relationships, unapologetically so. It's just that the term is tainted by one specific context, but me rooting for and following Arurandeisu's improvement in his singing reps with each update and getting genuinely happy for him and glad I'm supporting him on this road, even though I have no romantic feelings for him, is 100% a parasocial relationship, and it's a big part of my enjoyment of his content.

But knowing where he started, following his progress to this point, and knowing why he chose this specific song? It's absolutely fucking amazing.
I feel like it's a hard thing to consciously "try to get into", most of us just find ourselves into it. You just check a few clips, find them funny, and it goes from there. The best things about the hobby are only really great if you're already very much into it, so it's hard to recommend. It's not like trying to explain why I love From Software games so much, where I can just recommend my favorite game and let you play it for yourself. My favorite things to happen in Hololive will mean nothing for anyone on the outside.
