I leave the linkposting to the linkposting friend. I think myself and a bunch of others got sick of selfposting links because of the generally negative responses in the back, plus the clickthrough rate is really low for most people.

People not clicking links straight from here is a big problem that I don't think viewers realize. Chuubas can see where their traffic is from, and if people aren't clicking through directly from here, they aren't getting informed about how much traffic this place can drive. I have a pretty decent viewership but I don't get many clicks here despite being linked once in a while by linkposters (thank you by the way!). People don't even know that there's an audience to capture.

The sort of person to randomly stumble upon your stream among the trillions of other vtubers streaming it is also the sort of person to not stick around. They might watch for three minutes then never come back.

TOP TIER GAMES TO PLAY TO GROW AN AUDIENCE:
1)Older games that were widely and fanatically popular during the time your target audience was between the ages of 13 and 18 (Portal, Half-Life 2, etc.). You want those pangs of nostalgia. Use the psychology of reaction channels. Make people want to see how you feel about something a large number of them are liable to have played and have positive feelings for. Bonus points if you've never played it.

2) Games people universally acknowledge as foundational. Things like Thief, Deus Ex, FFVI / IX, that people have always heard are exceptional but it's somewhat difficult to find a modern perspective on. Always pay attention to video game news and pounce when public discourse brings one of these games back up. The VI re-release a few months ago would have been an amazing time to play through it and bring in new viewers.

3) Games you personally adore that are obscure but not TOO obscure. Games you can give background information and tell stories about for hours. It's not directly VTuber-related, but the Super Best Friends channel launched and succeeded very respectfully off the back of playing games in this and the prior (often both) categories during the early years. If you can't be a blind observer going in with blind and experienced viewers alike, be an extremely well-read entertainer showing your blind viewers around. Telling them all the little tricks and anecdotes about the game's development.

If the chuuba looks cute and funny it's clickbait because they almost always sound like 30s smokers and have nothing that's actually cute and funny. If the chuuba is generic then it's guaranteed low quality chuuba, boring as shit. The state of threads is a bit sad but expected. A lot of the earlier /here/ chuubas that have been really successful are now being posted on /lig/. I don't have anything against liggers but that thread is really just /vsj+/ rejects.

The "groomers" that link their oshi can't even be fucked enough to post an image, it's so lazy that I end up hating their chuuba for it.

nta and I'm pretty awful at shilling people I enjoy but yeah I like her streams a lot. There's a very specific energy to them, for example she'll spend an hour playing a corrupted SMW romhack and when it crashes and loses her saves she'll cycle through some licensed GBA shovelware for example. Or how she'll do a workout stream where she does a thousand squats (amongst other things) out of spite for a bad dream she had. Three factors
1. Most streamers are too fucking stupid to do voice reps correctly and end up destroying their voice and either drop it or can't stream
2. If the anon was told to play a shota already he probably sounds like he could be a good enough fit for the right model
3. I think it's cute when a character has a voice that seems more mature than their body. It adds charm to me. Frankly, too much voice reps creep me out. I don't want to watch a literal child.
