I idle on Youtube, watching random videos if no chuubas I'm subbed to are doing anything interesting. That red icon at the top right is the only step between me and a chuuba's stream. I go to Twitch every once in a while(when nobody is on YT) and leave right away if nobody I already like is on. I browse Twitch like the gif of the guy looking in the fridge and closing it. There's no discovering new chuubas there for me. The only Twitch chuubas I like started out on YT, have clips on YT, or did something related to YT chuubas that got my attention.

I don't enjoy Twitch culture. I like how it feels like YT chat for chuubas are invested and actually enjoy being there instead of just looking for a place to occupy their time. Also, the culture of the chuubas themselves is different. Twitch is dominated by indies while YT is dominated by corpos. That has an effect on how both sides act. Indies stream for themselves and corpos stream for viewers.

It may also be an age thing. I'm only just now downloading Tiktok because of Gura.

I can only watch 1 vtuber on twitch in a given month because I only have 1 twitch prime to use. Watching something on twitch requires at least 30 seconds of ads before getting to see anything and random ad insertions during the stream, most of the time are during interesting parts of the stream. I don't think anyone really cares if they do it sometimes, they mostly only talk about it if it's something they do constantly. I wouldn't mind it myself if they did it when they got sick or something to take it easy and not push themselves, it would be a nice change of pace, like a comfy stream. That said I also think it's somewhat about some anons just being bitter a good youtuber fell back onto over relying on it after going to Twitch, I often see them talk about that moistcritical guy that way for instance.

Twitch has this feature (not saying it's good or bad) where the creator and the mods completely dictate the tone of the channel. Some communities foster a pretty toxic atmosphere. Other fairly sizable communities are so non-toxic that you might be deluded into thinking that twitch is one of the least toxic places on the internet if you only watched their stuff.

Are there some really fucking stupid communities? Yeah.
But there are plenty of the opposite. There also are plenty of toxic fucks on youtube.
When it comes to approaches on moderation, I do appreciate that Youtube tries to be more neutral in its moderation,
but I also appreciate that Twitch allows for more leeway in saying SHIT FUCK BULLSHIT SON Of A BITCH ASSHOLE DOUCHEBACK MOTHERFUCKER COCK DICK PUSSY if that's your kind of content.

Automated moderation is better in the sense that it's really cheap for the company and creates a more uniform moderation policy, but man, some of the things that occasionally get moderated are funny as fuck. There was plenty of outcry towards improving the automated moderation in the chess community at some point. A lot fairly inert discussions about what white and black are going to do got continually flagged as hate speech. I think that the problem is not completely fixed either.

My favorite part about twitch vtubers was when they added those tags so people could tag those streams and immediately after some people found a way around twitch moderation so they could harass people. It ended up with a bunch of them going and trying some "walk out" because they kept getting harassed and probably in no small part because they'd literally tag their streams with their mental illnesses. It's like handing a bully a list of things you're sensitive about and thinking they wouldn't laugh at you for them. It ended up with a fucking furry vtuber doing an interview about it or some shit of fox news or whatever. Summed them up perfectly for me.

twitch culture (as in streamer culture, not fanbase/chat culture) is cringe as fuck. cliques control a lot of what goes on so you end up having to suck up to one of them just to not get constantly harassed, either by their fans or by their streamer-friends shit-talking you or trying to cancel you. who you decide to raid when you finish streaming can cause drama, not putting someone on your host list can cause drama etc.... it's literally just highschool drama all over again. youtube avoids this by being so big that you can't really form a single "youtube community", with twitch you kind of have to adopt theirs.
