In contrast much of the NijiJP old guard are very much Ayame-like, at least like 20-30, on top of a lot more actual graduations. It just-so happens that most of them burn out after a few years, especially in a free-for-all environment like that where there's no pressure to keep up with the company as a group.

Gen 2 is already disbanded at this point. The only one who's really there is Subaru, Choco coming second but still far and the rest are soft graduated.
Gen 3 is barely hanging there without Marine, then Rushia and now Pekora.
Gen 1 is also in bad shape because Matsuri pretty much is indie tier right now after all her yabs and apesex ,and Haachama somehow lost like 70% of her viewers (I believe her lack of consistent schedule and gaming streams hurt her a lot). Mel and Aki are kinda inclining but they are already too far behind, so Fubuki is the only one holding the gen.
The only gens who are doing good are gamers, 5 and 6. Gen 4 are more like 4 gen-less chubas without Coco; same with gen 0.
Outside a pretty small amount of holomems most of them feel like they are either depressed or severely burned out.

Haachama split her audience trying hard for EN attention only she isn't actually-that-good at speaking English and while it was a cute gimmick for a while, it's hard to hold the EN audience for real when a year+ on with the English vtubing scene far, far fucking more fleshed out than in Fall 2020. The other thing is her constant breaks and her content itself getting stuck in a loop of lore arcs - both of these things happening at once, making her practically a non-player as an actual consistent streamer for what, about a year? The real problem was that she was time looping, as you said, with the lore thing and then it was just either karaokes or viewer content review. The content review is amazing but it's not something you can do consistently because in the end it's not your content. She also stopped cooking and completely disregarded video games altogether. The lack of games is what I think hurt her more as today she streamed minecraft and got like 9k viewers. Her real problem is that she kinda stopped producing content and her streams were mostly about consuming/reacting to content made by her fans, and that in the long run is just not feasible.

I would best describe Mel as a Jack of All Trades; she is one of the better singers but not the best, she is one of the better dancers but not the best, she is one of the better networkers but not the best, etc. etc.
