2D is cheaper to get a decent model, and even just iffy 2D is serviceable. A shitty 3D is a massive debuff (just look at all the vroid tubers), but I agree theres no reason to take the step back if you already have a good 3D

In the specific case of Zen, they're doing it so they have models to match the styles of their friends. Go 3D when with the 3D friends, 2D when with the 2D friends.

Actually more specifically, Zen being a TTS vtuber kind of needs a 3D model to play off with visual humor since they don't talk with their real voice. Zen has the most fun I think I've seen a vtuber have with a 3D model. Who else would turn themselves into a fucking gecko as a April Fools joke?

vshojo has pretty good 2d models, hololive doesn't. snuffy has one of the best 3d models, but the vroid models are ass.

I love Gecko zen and I actually prefer her old 3d model to the new one. The old one is far more sexy and expressive with it's resting bitch face and big eyes/lips compared to the new model. But it's still cool.
