What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Depends. Do you plan to do things which might end in stalkers trying to ruin your life, like being a VTuber?

I know many 2view friends who never bothered forsaking their entire IRL identity, it's absolutely not a requirement. But people online can get really shitty, so you need to be prepared for that.

However, many in the VTuber fandom don't like being aware of what the chuuba looks like in real life, and especially don't like the two being mixed.

I had this evening and morning to think about it.
The problem is (likely) that the initial art is just too focused on trying to get lines exact and was too focused on individual areas (literally, zoomed in all the way 90% of the time, blame my vision issues) that it all looks really weird now.
>Will I redraw?
Yes, but I think I’ll redraw for a model sheet rather than specifically live2D for now.

Big thanks to the emulator anon, who recommended me duckstation, not only is that application intuitive and no-nonsense, it has everything i could ever want for PSX emulation and it looks amazing too. And it allowed me to use my memory cards from epsxe so i can continue my Legend of Dragoon playthrough with better resolution too. Being able to change settings without restarting the emulator is so good too.

This really brightened my day, if i wasn't a babi i'd give you a big kiss.

Not them but they steered you right. It's the best PSX emulator I've ever used, too. It's no longer being actively developed but there's really nothing to be lost by that; it works perfectly with practically every game. The vertex stabilization feature is especially impressive even though I don't use it too often.
The DuckStation dev is working on PCSX2 now from what I hear, so PS2 emulation is probably going to be much, much better in the near future if that's something you're also interested in.

For all the other settings just play around with it, you can literally run the game, and change display settings in real time, it's so fast to just check out all the settings and pick what suits you best. I definitely recommend playing around with it, because everyone has their preferences and it depends on game too!

I tend to just play without any enhancements because I have a lot of nostalgia for the PlayStation and generally prefer to play stuff the way it originally looked. Especially for stuff like Resident Evil and the Final Fantasy games where you've got polygons moving around on pre-rendered backgrounds; I find the high res models against the low res backgrounds a little jarring for my tastes.
When I do tweak stuff though, pretty much everything I care to change is on the Enhancements tab. You can change the internal resolution up top for higher resolution polygons and mess with the PGXP settings at the bottom to get rid of that signature wobbliness that every 3D game on the console has going on. You can even force widescreen and progressive scan for stuff.

man i fucking hate this place. not everyone spends months brooding over a design. most people come up with the concept, send it to an artist and call it a fucking day. they sent a sketch back, i asked about a few changes and they sent another that I gave the OK for. it took me maybe 3 weeks to get mine back and when I got it i asked for a "mouth open" of the front face of the ref sheet and they added it before sending me the files

Maybe for a normal comm, but most if not all chuubas are picking their artist themselves based on either their personal tastes or their personal tastes+whoever is popular, not hoping viewers aren't linking you some inaccessible 200k+ follower artist with nice art that doesn't even do Live2D, a bunch their friends, or low quality artists, industry artists, or artists that don't even take comms. that's what i've been saying. stop wasting time looking to commission professional character designers from Pixar to come up with your avatar. just get a fucking png. slap together something that's aesthetically pleasing to look at and just get a model so you can start streaming.

That really depends on what kind of experience you are looking for.

FF1-6 give a more classic 2D jrpg experience, with 6 probably being the best from the bunch.

FF7-10 are probably the golden era where very few games can compare to what square made at the time.

There's a ton more, but for me 6 through 10 are the core FF experience and you could pick any of them and probably enjoy them if you are into these games. Asking for opinions on FF games is a dangerous thing to do, if you are brave enough ask on /v/, but in the end nobody can tell if you'll like them.

Personally I think the TBA/Pre-Debut, done right, is an excellent way to start up. That being said you still need to do your reps but there are people out there who are either already sociable and charismatic and don't need to spend months streaming to 0 viewers or have enough of a plan set up that they can do pre-debut content and still build a community that way, the latter of which typically was into streaming long before becoming a streamer themselves or just studied the format enough to replicate it pretty simply. I think Pre-Debut is fine if done efficiently but most people here don't really have the means, experience, and in many cases the drive or desire to do that.

The Twitter pastebin is pretty good for this in all honesty, but you still have to be sociable enough to know how to talk to another human being so that outs a lot of people on this site. One thing about him though is that he did invest quite a bit and that look of a "professional" or "finished" channel makes people a lot more likely to interact even if you're pre-debut.

You don't need to just spend an insane amount of money (though that's an option), I think it just helps to have a channel, brand, and overall look that feels finished and not under construction with random shit constantly changing. Yeah, my few high-interaction tweets are all me asking OTHER people what their opinions are. A great one I've seen repeated over and over are variants of "What's your favorite part of your avatar?" or "Here's my horns, what do yours look like?" if you've got a distinct theme or charm point that's common amongst other Vtubers. yes. sound triggers for ASMR are universal. you can go several ways
>BFE/GFE scenario voice asmr.
this is primarily whispers and ear blowing triggers. whispers can be done with most mics but ear blowing will require a very good condenser mic and proper sound filters to avoid popping. viewers who come for this like to self insert and it takes work coming up with the scripts but if you pull it off well they'll be loyal viewers. takes the most amount of effort and is better suited to youtube videos instead of livestream. one of the more notable chuubas i know who does this is darlingstrawb https://www.youtube.com/c/darlingstrawb

>object trigger AMSR.
this was one of the most popular ASMR forms out there in the past. think cutting little chunks of soap bars or crinkling hardpaper. requires the most amount of initial investment since it can cost some money to put together the objects needed to make the trigger noises. you can find millions of these on youtube right now, usually just a handcam with some person's well manicured nails handling the objects.

>general sound trigger
has become more common after object trigger ASMR kinda fell off. this is what Fauna and Millie do on their streams. soft tapping, gentle rubbing, combined with whispering keywords and trigger phrases. some people have specific words that when spoken softly can trigger ASMR for them and this allows the chuuba to tailor the experience for their viewers.

Start now then. Theres nothing wrong with cultivating a talent on stream, majority of indies I've seen do it.
Use it as content, have fun with it. Lets say you're trying to practice drawing, make a quick 1-5 minute doodle a points redeem. If you draw something with an outlandish concept thats funny, go ahead and clip it. Post it as a short, subtly mention its a points redeem and it might just hook people in.
Content creation is a creative hobby, get creative with what you want to do on stream, and get creative how you can spin things to knock out offline content/marketing while streaming.

Well bros this is it.
After grinding hard my Twitter got nuked. I avoided all the fun words, only posted cutesy stuff etc. And because some one called me a retard it's been terminated permanently. It's the weirdest thing. Some one responded to me correcting my spelling error and called me a retard. They get the tweet deleted for violating the tos. But I'm sent an email saying I'm being banned too, with a screen cap of their tweet. Underneath my icon as if I said it. I tried appealing but it's been over a week and no response. I had 10k followers on that account, I tried to make another one and it was banned because my main is banned. I can't use any variation of my name, all my connections are gone etc. Heck I still have a bunch of commissions that are supposed to be done through there. There's some element I'm missing but I can't know what it is.

Humility tossed aside, I think I'm very entertaining, and I've done this for a while. I was a fleshtuber for years before becoming a chuuba.

To be fair, I only started really putting the work for these reps recently, but I feel like I should've seen more growth than what I have now. I still end up with 1 viewer for parts of streams.

I'm working on doing more collabs right now and coming up with exciting events to hype things up. I recently did a nice collab with 5 other vtubers and I got 4 followers during the stream, which is a lot still at this point.

I'm going to just save the money to hire a consultant. There are some that specifically work with Vtubers too. Most of them are as expensive as the rigging of a model but I've gotta do what I most to fulfil this dream.

Unless Niji or Holo find me in the haystack first.

To an extent that's true but I don't just sing on top of an instrumental and throw it on the internet. I mix the vocals in audacity, and then do a lyric video for the songs. The vocal mixing tbf is hit-and-miss but I'm not a millionaire and can't hire someone to professionally do it every time.

Nope. I post some of the vocal covers there, and I even did a mix of all the openings for an anime series into one video with a link to all my other places in the video itself. That one did quite well but again, the difficulty is converting those engagers into more.
I post these on relevant subs.

>stop looking at vtubers. look at tradface cam streamers...you're just streamers.
This is one of the biggest problems I see in these threads. Most people who are fans of Vtubers are almost 100% new to streaming in general. Everything they know is indie Vtubers, corporate Vtubers, and that's it. They know nothing about """"professional"""" streaming even at the most fundamental of levels because they've never consumed anything other than

>"Cute Japanese girl says some words in English and it goes viral"
>"omg this one says ara ara and tells me to have a nice day"
or
>"i watch this indie vtuber because she goes on 4chan and gets posted in my indie thread".

It's no coincidence a majority of the top chuubas have also been watching streamers for years, a lot just replicate what their favorites do and have their own spin on it. You won't magically become a good streamer by watching them obviously, but there's a lot of things you can pick up on, ideas you can steal, etc. The problem is the average 4chan contrarian would never watch the dreaded "normie" IRL streamer even though most if not all chuubas are making pretty normie (As far as your average twitch viewer goes) content, just with an anime avatar.

https://sullygnome.com/channel/kanekolumi/90
if you're talking entirely indie /asp/ie who hasn't gone corpo at all it's probably Lex but he has the deep male voice buff
https://sullygnome.com/channel/lexpartevt/90

both of them only posted a handful of times here but Lumi posted as an indie chuuba before becoming Lumi. Lex dropped his design once or twice and a vocaroo somewhere.

There is some half-decent advice here on growth/marketing but a majority of it is surface level. The best ones are shit you should already know, like clipping your own content or making sure you've got content somewhere off stream. I get this is a place to help people but that's just one of those things that needs to be common sense. No one here can tell you anything a "How to grow as a streamer" video on Youtube can't, in fact a majority of it is the same advice

If someone is struggling with something as basic as "I only go live and that's the only way someone can find me." they were never trying to begin with and won't grow no matter how much advice they're given

>> No.22165593

>>22165505
I personally think that content can be lukewarm or mid, its more important to get yourself into the "it" crowd.

Is there a leech speedrun guide?

I've always felt really shit about my voice, and thought it was really unattractive/gross sounding.

I woke up to an email inviting me to voice in a yaoi passion project.

I feel validated, but at what cost...

Is there any hope for me? I'm really concerned about my mic picking up random shit like me typing, drinking water or my occasional shitty asthma wheezing more than anything without a proper noise gate since I know a couple people who'd be able to help me with the other stuff.

That's correct. The reason I still lurk 4chan, despite all of the shit and hatefulness, is because you can find really interesting critiques and uncommon perspectives that would be next to impossible to find on most personality/clout-driven social platforms.

Bionicleanon here, finally got my capture card!!! Stayed up late to check if everything works, and I'm excited to finally have gotten through the setup. I'll probably try streaming the game throughout this week, any tips or things I should prepare for? Even if it's something simple. I'll check any replies later today since I'm going to sleep now, good luck to everyone doing their best!

Someone asked about character designs before. There is skima, if you're not too sure about what kind of design you want. There are a lot of adopt designs there. Gotta message the artist and check if they're okay with you using the design for vtubing first. A lot of them come with multiple expressions so you can be a png tuber till you can upgrade. Some charge quite a bit but there are some really nice designs there

https://skima.jp/dl/detail?id=101323 (girl design, with color adjustments it'll look cute) $50

https://skima.jp/dl/detail?id=101242 (male design) $80

pic is something I was going to buy (was only $40, I thought I'd buy it the next day but it was gone)
