character and actor are both flawed in describing what a vtuber is. More accurately they are masks or personas they adopt when streaming. When Marine says she is depressed is that an actor playing a character? We don't know. The problem is that the audience doesn't know which elements of the vtuber persona are outright fabrications and which are their real personality coming through. Its a cheap shot to blame the audience for confusing the persona and the real person because most vtubers to a varying degree blur this line themselves and regularly ask their audience to trust them.
