The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Did a test stream today before I had to stop. Felt pretty okay about it honestly. It was my first time ever streaming and no tech difficulties.

Currently I'm .png streaming vidya to 0 viewers on Twitch while uploading about 2 song covers/month onto Youtube, but I'd also like to upload a review of a TV series that I like (pic related).
I know that the meta for Youtube is to upload a bunch of short, low-effort videos daily instead of weekly/bi-monthly longer videos, so I'm considering reviewing each episode independently and then compiling all 85 videos into one long megalith at the end, but I feel like the people who subscribed for utau content will resent that I've become a ".png rants about children's cartoons"-tuber.
Basically, I want to make content about the Venture Brothers and I'm not sure if I should upload 1 video, 7 videos, or 85 videos.

Not every streamer gets encoding 100% of the time every stream, it's partners only. Sometimes you can get it but other times you can't and there's no real way to know until you start, which is why just defaulting to 720 is better

when you're at 0-10ccv streaming more than 2 or 3 times a week is a waste. Spend time thinking up ways to make streams that translate well into videos, both longform(that markiplier pokemon bullshit) and short, clippable stuff. Shill your videos anywhere and everywhere(Youtube, Tiktok, Twitter, even le reddit.) Once you gather some momentum and some reliable paypigs it's time to consider streaming more, and shilling less. It doesn't always lock viewers out, it can and since that's about 40-50% of Twitch it doesn't really make much sense to do for something most viewers don't notice to begin with and you don't have re-encoding all the time unless you're partner, it's fairly random and just gets less frequent to get at prime time

The short fanservice video meta for vtubers does work, but there's another more reliable and profitable method that standard youtubers use. They spam "informational" type videos on a single show/anime. The trick is to stick to one piece of media and deviate as little as possible. Do this and reliable viewers who are hungry for venture bros content will snowball over time. While you do this, practice clickbaity style titles and thumbnails, this will take time to master but is probably more important than the actual video itself. Check out this dude, I watched him grow pretty steadily in the last 2 years just spamming HXH garbage:

Notice that all of his videos are 11 minutes on the dot, this is not on accident, that's the minimum video length where you get midroll ads.

One thing to mention, you probably wont get too many live stream viewers from your venture bros audience. I've seen youtube channels with 700k subs that stream to like 30 people idk why

I've done a similar thing before with the Elder Scrolls, that one being a four hour retrospective that I finished in late September but waited a month and a half to upload for the 10 year anniversary of Skyrim. I'm not sure if waiting until the content is topical to upload helps out that much with viewership very much. It seems like it's a trade-off between the bump in initial viewership from the video being uploaded at the right time versus the extra viewership from the video being up an extra month or two (probably much more than that considering the typical rate at which VB episodes are made.)
I suppose a good option would be to upload the individual episode reviews day by day, then do the compilation once news comes out to capitalize off of trending while also doubling up on the potential view count.

you can test this yourself by doing a local recording and limiting your bitrates to see what the result will look like but the rule of thumb is 3000 minimum for shit like visual novels or gameboy games that are mostly static. genshin would have the most things moving on screen so you'll want at least 4500 for that. indie horror really depends on what it is. Puppet Combo who makes a lot of indie horror adds dumb filter which creates a ton of noise on the screen that demands a higher bitrate that usual.

yeah idk about simping, but you'd be suprised at how some times people can just find you and start being invested. i've made a couple of small gameplay videos for the bleach gatcha game, this one guy commented on every single vid i made and said "sick gameplay bro" when those videos had maybe 200 views max. when i was in middle school i made TF2 commentary videos, same thing happened where this dude i have never ever heard of just decided to watch every single one of my vids and left friendly comments.

chances are any money sunk into that machine might be wasted. id definitely try to see first if you can stream with it.

it's highly unlikely you'll break something in the process most laptops use shutdowns if temps get too high (usually 90C°-100c°) and that's way before the components die on you. that or thermal throttle out the ass.

The components themselves seem fine for streaming low end games. If it's really just temps, a good cleaning can alleviate some of it but chances are it's gonna deep-fry itself either way. it sounds like you are strapped for cash so you might not have any options. if worse comes to worst you can always stream old emulator games...

What I've been doing is just streaming for practice. Streaming to a friend has helped a lot, but don't just be streaming, work on your other stuff behind the scenes as well. I don't even have a schedule, because one would be pointless because I'm not that great at streaming yet. Practice for specific things too, Endurance, cutting down on dead air, etc.

/asp/ie from a few threads ago here; the guy who asked about rebranding my existing stream or trying to make a new second account and juggle two streams at once.

I decided to do the full rebrand and I actually had my first VTuber stream today - to my relief most of my regulars came back and were confused but still stuck around, and actually my viewership (both peak and average) *did* go up from my social media marketing too. Someone who'd never watched me as a "facecam" streamer also said I had a "voice like butter" but I'm literally just britbong - maybe the accent buff was strong.

I applied for both Niji and Holo, but so far only Hololive has seen my audition(they didn't stick around for long though). I've applied for both before and it feels like Niji is the only one who's never even watched my auditions. Is there anything on Niji's application side that might've fucked me over, but not enough of a fuck over that Holo would still give me a shot. If anything, I'd expect Hololive to be ghosting me this way instead of Nijisanji.

Why does everything have to be about "aspies" that made it, you narrow your shit so fucking much. There are CHUUBAS IN GENERAL who have made it in the last year. The problem is when people start making excuses for their success which is why I don't really care to go out of my way and "prove you wrong". It's disingenuous and unhelpful to just say that without providing some sort of instruction though, which is why I try to always try and offer those guidelines.

Obviously this is a place for us to help one another, but for some things outside of the more niche technical help and just advice it would be good to get into the habit of learning things on our own, because it will absolutely pay off in the long run. what Artemis did to succeed is impossible to reproduce in 2022. she hit the perfect storm and got carried due to holoen hype to the point she can coast off her consistent 500 CCV playing minesweeper.

this one is a bit more true. every day there are more self drawn artist chuubas but the barrier to 'make it' is getting higher and higher. simply having a self drawn model isn't good enough you need to have a network to get people to notice you or have the cash to pay for extremely good rigging that catches peoples eyes. the barrier here is just rising every day.

She's "stagnating" at 500 viewers streaming less than 60 hours a month with minimal low-effort content, anon. There's people who live off of streaming with less than that, growth comes in bursts, there will always be periods of stagnation unless you're making huge moves constantly which is incredibly rare. This idea of "stagnation" being bad when it's people with crazy high numbers is silly. It's not optimal, no, but there's people who "stagnate" at 5k viewers who have barely grown in years. CCV isn't the only thing out there that matters
