Sword and Shield is an underrated weapon, its pretty combo focused and the only weapon that can use items while unsheathed. It's a strong weapon if you can consistently land combos
Dual Blades are probably the second weebiest weapon after long sword. I haven't used them myself but I know its attack animations have high commitment.

Dual Blades are nimble as hell and can shred a monster to pieces when you have an opening. Sword and Shield lacks the blistering attac speed of DB, but it is supremely versatile. Quick strikes with the sword, KO potential with the shield and the ability to use items with the weapon unsheathed make it pretty solid overall. Solid options either way.

legit question, when does the game get challenging? so far she's been taking little to no dmg and monsters just lie down on the ground after getting stunned. My only experience with monster hunting games was god eater 3 and monsters there fuck you up in 3 hits + can overdrive into a phase that makes every attack one shot. not expecting anything like that in mh but fuck, a sense of danger would be nice, she seems to be steamrolling the content

All weapons trip other players, but it's only a real problem with the longsword because of its animations.
If you're playing with friends they'll probably position themselves in such a way that they won't trip people, but online randos don't give a fuck

It is notorious within the monster hunter community (pre-world) for people who use it always knocking people out of their attack animations.
This is especially bad if you're a great sword or hammer user.
Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to wait 3 seconds to do a really strong charged attack that everybody can see you charging for only to have some fucking dickhead with a longsword come by and stand right next to you like a prick and hit you out of your move?
If I see a longsword user asking for help I will join their quest and do nothing specifically to make the fight harder for them.

Early on its more QoL since you probably wont even need to use many items, but later on being able to buff and heal your group/yourself without having to sheathe, run away, use item and unsheathe becomes pretty valuable.

I honestly don't think the Souls series is not a great point of comparison. Sure, they're both 3rd person action games with medieval-esque weaponry, but the Souls games have always been more about the overall exploration/navigation of a treacherous environment compared to MH, which usually focuses on singular encounters.

Each weapon is good. There are matchups that favor one type(based on mobility/speed etc) but you can usually get away doing whatever you want. If you fight something that is always in the air you'll want to use a ranged weapon for example. Each weapon plays differently enough you'll find one that fits the way you like the play.

had a funny moment the other day with the hbg. There's an ammo type called cluster bomb which is a mortar that splits into a few explosives. Used that on a downed monster and blew the 3 melee people away. I won't be using it in multiplayer from now on, but made me laugh. Bow users which use the wide shot are also incredibly annoying. The kanji for Ninomae is 一 which can also be read as ichi(1), but in this case is read as ni-no-mae.
For the term ni-no-mae, ni is the number of 2, no is a postpositional/joining particle, and mae means before.
In other words her name Ninomae means before 2, or 1.
On the other hand, Ina'nis means void or 0 in latin.
It's also worth noting that it's used in Sephiroth's theme and Ina is a big Final Fantasy fan so it's probably a reference to that too.
Ina'nis Ninomae is therefore equivalent to "0 before 2" or 0 1. Converted to an ordinary number it's just 1 which is the kanji for Ninomae.
Alternatively, Ninomae Ina'nis is the equivalent of "before 2 0", or 1 0.
