This is ultimately a problem that can be solved by the streamer. Plenty of vtubers seem to have a passing grasp of this simple concept while some exceptional ones used it to gain massive followings. That concept being Stage Control.

As a performer (which they are) they have to have the ability to control the stage and, by extension, the audience. A streamer that gets bogged down by a shit chat is a performer that has lost control of the stage. Eventually these performers fade away if they cannot adapt or learn.

Someone made one of the best points a few posts up: streamers getting stuck in games or have boring builds will not engage enough of the audience to give a good performance. Poor performance means smaller audiences in the future. Not to mention how unforgiving social media is.

The dark souls community on twitch is known to be extremely bad for backseating/shitting on people for doing "suboptimal" strats etc. Combine that with his stream appearing near the top of the elden ring category and it's a recipe for disaster.

A hot new open world game with tons to explore and several good and many more bad ways to play the game will draw this kind of crowd. The Souls community is already obnoxious about backseating so ER streams are basically going to start at least a 7/10 scale of backseating. I think Ina is handling it very well by bringing up that she wishes to have as little backseating as possible and that she's open to suggestions when she wants it.

I have to imagine its due to expectations. I mean, Zen frequently gets shit on by chat- it's a major part of Zen's schtick. So why get upset. I suspect Zen was actually trying. Like, rather than just sort of dicking around like vtubers typically do on stream, she got into it and was really trying to just enjoy the game normally. Zen was in the mindsight of a real gamer for a moment, and thus took all the shittalking as real.
