What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

I'm wrapping up my second week as a streamer with a PNG and enjoying myself a lot so far. I got my first update from my rigger earlier today and got to see my eyes and brows move around.
I'm going to start marketing myself next week and I don't even feel that anxious about it. I'm excited to have a chat to respond to instead of just reacting to what I'm playing.

Do a yellow cat, doxx yourself first before anyone else can and put on a strong front. It's really only a problem if you're an actual girl. It's just a simple fear play. Might as well cross that bridge when you get there.

I'm open and discuss my experiences with police, jail, drugs, suicide, having been doxxed/swatted (<- which attracts quite the viewers), and etc in my streams. I really rather not live in fear of the doxx boogeyman. It's becoming increasingly mainstream and legal territory as well, probably when MetaVerse comes out there'll be full-blown online legislation beyond DMCA.
I DARE these fuckers to doxx/swat me again. Then I can make an example out of it.

Take deep breaths and do it faggot. With practice, exposure, and experience you'll be fine. Sound like you care a bit too much about how people perceive you. Streaming brings to the surface a lot of your personal problems and opportunities for self-improvement and personal growth.

It's a thing you get used to with time and experience.
Introverts have a knack for it because they're more used to thinking and talking alone (not an insult).

I just wanted to drop by and encourage fellow /asp/ies. I've started streaming and making content about a week ago or so and I've pulled nearly 10 viewers in my streams, and a triple digits in a couple videos; it's a small step, but it's a start. I hope that one day I'll be good enough to apply to a corpo; I don't have any artistic talent but I'm good at talking so I hope I can exploit that!

Get into the family's accounts(don't tell me you can't do this, boomers have nearly zero opsec) and start untagging yourself from pics, starting from the oldest. Also delete the family tree thing, most people set it once and never touch(or even look at it) it anymore. Then start the grind of googling your full name, personal registry numbers, school name, and nicknames from most recent to oldest. This is what people who want to hurt you will find first, so you have some idea what you'll be working with. If by some reason you use leddit, there's tools to scrub your entire history as well. >My last ASMR stream was 3x my normal audience
Here's three ASMR vtubers:
https://sullygnome.com/channel/ikumi/30
https://sullygnome.com/channel/fallenshadow/30
https://sullygnome.com/channel/vividlyvivi/30

Ikumi generally hits over 1000 CCV on ASMR. As soon as she switches to a game, see her numbers dip. Look at the streams where she isn't doing ASMR, and they're all less than 200.
Shondo hits over 1000 on ASMR, and around 400 on non-ASMR streams.
Vivi hits 600+ on ASMR, and around 300 on non-ASMR.

If you fall into ASMR content, you will absolutely have a larger audience (if you're good at it), but the majority will NOT come for your non-ASMR streams. It's on you to figure out what balance you want to strike, and why you're doing it.

A smaller channel:
https://sullygnome.com/channel/hiromimochiii/45
Peaks at 70 for ASMR (currently sitting at 40), sits at 20 for gaming.

If you focus on any category, you will absolutely drop off if you play outside it - whilst a lot of your viewers will like you for you, they might be interested in your actual gameplay first. This is excessive with ASMR because of the psuedo-G/BFE, and because a LOT of people fall asleep to it. So they'll be shuffled around between ASMR streamers in raids whilst they nap. They do more collabs, offline and online, and do a LOT of boosting of each other.

If you do variety from the start, and don't focus, then you won't get quite the drop... But you won't get the peaks:

Hi, I'm looking for advice! I'm a (very slow and inconsistent) streamer on Twitch with 900 followers but average 7~10 CCV. I have recently begun using other platforms such as TikTok when I can't stream and it seems to have been helping a bit. My streams are inconsistent due to my illness and my setup.

Here is a link to my channel: https://twitch.tv/miyuyus

I want to do better as a streamer. Please give me honest advice how I can improve. If you have any advice on the dog debuff or my audio, please let me know. Thank you! I can post a bananya on Twitter if necessary.

you barely streamed 10 times in the last 30 days and most of those streams were barely over an hour long. what numbers are you actually expecting with these? it takes 1 hour just for people to trickle into your streams. you're ending your streams before that even happens.

set a schedule. nothing else you do will matter. none of your tiktoks your tweets or anything else matters if you're not even streaming for 2/3rds of the month.

A schedule is a great idea, you really should try to either stream more or keep streaming the same, but in a consistent schedule. So you can develop a higher following that know you'll be there at a certain time.

Popped into your stream for a bit :)
-Learn to turn use what you see in chat and turn into a conversation. Powerwash is a zatsu game so you need to make it interesting by conversing with chat or provoking them into one.
-I’d say put more emotion into your actions/words but you seem to be going for an ASMR-y route so maybe that’s fine. A better mic to bring out more detail in your voice for ASMR might be good. For immersion, game audio needs to be loud but not loud enough that you can’t be heard.
-Set and follow a consistent timeslot
You might learn something from watching fallenshadow since you produce similar content imo

That's basically how I exclusively find other Vtubers to watch. I don't sort from Low to High, but even at peak hours it's not exactly a slog to get from the top to the sub-partner number areas. It's not like it's the Just Chatting category where half the website seems to be.

Can we please stop trying to use corporate Vtubers as a baseline for what applies to indies? He's had tens of thousands of people look at him in the first days he went live and he casts a much wider net than even some of the largest indies have as far as having eyes on his account. No aspie will ever, ever have that in such a short amount of time (and from Day 1).

haha a totally random chinese guy who happens to be a totally random mod for Fulgur who definitely didn't have a nearly exclusive chinese following translated his lore into chinese? im sure this guy has nothing to do with his PL At all, must be pure coincidence.

Seriously though, his content has always been literature-based, of course he'll continue that in Niji. The difference is that just starting out with PILES AND PILES of nonsensical lore (especially when you're not someone with a literary or writing background, even as a hobby) isn't going to help you with growth. If someone was actually serious about being a literary-chuuba then it still makes more sense to grow your audience around that and then introduce your own stories once you've grown. He was just able to completely circumvent that wait ecause he's already got an initial audience from Day 0 due to being in a company.

An /asp/ie won't be able to benefit from a full on narrative like this unless they've already got a famous PL and whale insanely hard with pre-debut assets and lore shit and even then it's not guaranteed.

Entertaining content that hasn't exploded yet. I understand I'm not going to find very talented people unless I'm REALLY lucky or they just started the stream, but every once in a while I find a chuuba with potential and watch them grow. Some people like being part of the OGs, others just prefer a comfy chat and streamers that actually pay attention to it, and yet others are just groomers.

By the way, the tags work on twitch because you can filter multiple at the same time. So tag your shit properly and extensively. Yes there are 600 niggers with "vtuber" tag online at any time, but pick three terms that apply to you, filter your search using them and see how many are left.

If you're not too uncomfortable with it, it can be an endearing trait to joke about with your viewers. Plenty of vtubers have joke alternative models. Every vtuber has to make a choice at some point about how they present themselves and how they want to be viewed. >Yeah, if I manage to get some hobby financially successful, won't it compromise my anonymity? Like releasing a song, drawing or video game on steam?
do you care about getting doxxed?
yes - make a new identity separate entirely from your old bullshit
no - who cares then?

That narrows it down for sure, I think I have ideas that fit into that category. Though there's another thing that bothers me, about niches. If I start playing one type of game too much, won't my audience get used to that stuff, then react negatively when I swap? Any experience /asp/?

you're not even at a position where this matters. you're over thinking it.

I'm seeing two votes for the HyperX QuadCast. We have a winner!

Looking it over, it sure looks familiar... is this the same model that Hungrybox uses?

So basically I should shut off those thoughts and just make something?

yes
https://twitter.com/liquidhbox/status/961448875625209857?lang=en but it's been 4 years since that tweet so i don't know if he has changed mics or not.

>>20069219
yes. get started and make content. it's retarded to expect someone with no experience to know exactly what they'll be doing for the next 12 months of streams.

>> No.20069316

/asp/, do you have any "rules" that you go by when playing your character? Like the stuff you can and can't say, or what you can and can't do? I remember a post here mentioning that they put up sticky notes to remind themselves of what they should say in certain situations, or what they should call things, to prevent yabs and OPSEC breaches.

Something something /wvt/ is scary. Jokes aside, I'm aware I may have to self-post at some point.

Neat! Although if I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a decent mic, should I treat myself to the HyperX QuadCast S? What's the difference between that and the standard model?

What's weird is that you don't even need to debut to get permission to create. I remember seeing a vsinger who made a backlog of songs before-

Wait, I found the tweet
https://twitter.com/TCBNmusic/status/1357148895294287874

There might be some vtubers who make content first THEN make a debut, but they're in the rarity like the one I linked.

no difference that will matter on your stream. pick whichever is cheaper.

>> No.20069549

Yes. Go stream, play games, throw a lot of things to the wall and see what sticks for you. Only after you get an audience then you start thinking about niches and numbers.

Okay, so I'm still a NMI(yet), but some advice:

Youtube channel
Make a YT channel, export all your VODs here. However, have all the videos as unlisted, put them into playlists, and make the playlists public. This way, people can view the raw footage of your streams if they really want (this is unlikely)
You can have public videos for clips (consider putting all clips into another playlist), and highlight reels/set content (another playlist)
tiktok
Upload those clips to tiktok. Consider making shorts there too:
https://www.twitch.tv/foxplushy - as per Sully, has a ~250 CCV, and ~71K followers on Twitch.
1.1Million on Tiktok.
That's good if you want to push for sponsorships/corpo.
It helps she's got a pretty model, but still.

Don't have an audience yet
Focus on games you know, and can talk entirely through. You need to focus on building up people to watch your gameplay now, rather than creating shortform content - youtube/tiktok/twitter followers don't really translate into views. They can do, but they don't always.
But streaming will get you more viewers.
So stream. Stream games you enjoy. Things you're passionate about and can go on aspie-fuelled rants about. People like passion.
For clipping, you definitely want to consider clipping yourself, or asking chat (once you have chatters) to clip moments for you... But also
set up punchlines in advance
Figure out a joke, funny story, or 'misunderstanding' you can do in game. Play it up for laughs. Did you call the character the wrong name? Do it continuisly, and 'forget' his real name. If someone else calls him Dave, feign misunderstanding of who that is

If one is going to non-ironically think like that they are a retard for being on 4chan of all places. Might as well go look for resources/support on more mainstream/normie websites like leddit.

Also, it works both ways. The kind of streamer people will find using this method(20- CCV at best unless we someone who just started a stream by chance) do indeed benefit a lot from half a dozen random people whoare shoipping around low viewercount chuubas. That dude is probably only that angry faggot from the other thread who stopped growing altogether and want to blame everyone and everything else for it but himself.
