Its happened before but its so incredibly rare that I can't help but wonder if its a new policy. Like Ai-chan started off doing collabs quite a lot, then as she became the oyabun it became increasingly rare for her to be involved with anyone else who wasn't also massive, A.E Kaguya Luna or Mirai Akari, beyond a surface level.
That vtuber program for example, that brought in all kinds of chuubas, only involved her singing the opening theme, then upd8 started getting more talents, just like hololive, and became even more secular, except while hololive generally focuses on all their talent, upd8 basically only focused Kizuna Ai and sorta fucked over everyone else.

When I hear "Holofag" I just think of people that showed up in 2020 even though /jp/ and the vtuber thread was already going to shit around mid-2019 with November/December being a real milestone, "x"fag wasn't even really part of that thread's vernacular (at least not widely used like here and other boards) until then. People coming to /jp/ just for Hololive stuff and being obnoxious about it basically put a mark on every other person's back that came at the same time but might have otherwise just been interested in vtubers in general (it was very easy to tell who was new) and /jp/sises aren't really known for their calm & measured temperament.

Before all that the threads were pretty basic outside of the usual bad actors, and there weren't any splits. Imagine that, all fanbases (not just Niji or Holo, there are a lot of vtubers after all) all in one thread and posting about whatever. Although even back then /jp/ was still keen on gatekeeping and their worst enemy was /wsg/ as innocuous as that sounds.
