The reason lolicons and loli haters get so heated whenever the topic gets brought up is because both groups are operating under a different definition of what "lolicon" is. Lolicon exists on a spectrum and it gets dicey when made black and white.

"In Japanese popular culture, lolicon (ロリコン, also romanized as rorikon or lolicom) is a genre of fictional media in which young (or young-looking) girl characters appear in sexual or suggestive contexts."

The wiki page for it has the best definition I've seen because it covers the extremes of the spectrum (actual pedos at one end and those that like petite women at the other).

There are those that actually like the lolis because in their mind they are actually pre-pubescent girls. They like them because they ARE children. These lolicons are pedophiles.

There are also those that like petite women, which also fall under the definition of loli. The main difference is that they like them only because of their physical build, not because they are underage. It's just the opposite of liking curvy women.

That's what I make of it anyway.
