The other thing is because it was clear the Chinese had turned against Hololive, or at least enough of them to cause a serious impediment to any future plans they had for growth/expansion, it's not like they were sacrificing a bright future even if their gov didn't crack down. Because Taiwan was a Japanese colony in specific and is still a sore spot for them it's like a double whammy of autism triggered that probably would not go away for years. In fact it still has not gone away as they're just harassing Fubuki and Aqua now instead.
