What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

its just me being stupid with the magic wand and fill tool, i usually shrink and sharpen so when the color bleeds over the outline (which is what i meant by artifacts) over the outline isnt as noticeable, but i forgot im working with several different line layers here
I'm excited to actually finally start coloring in the model though, this is actually my third attempt at drawing my personal model. I've rigged before but I figured it'd be easier to advertise commissions if I had a good personal model and streamed with it. The other two attempts had setbacks with a poor design on the 1st and terrible time efficiency for the work done on the second, so far I've managed to get further than both previous models in a fifth of the time.

What might be a fun theme for a PNG "model"?
I don't want to do a human (or humanoid) because they're more often than not underwhelming (and because no one would tune into a guy's likeness), and I'm not too sure about doing an animal because it's uncomfortably close to making furries feel like I'm one of them.
So that leaves me with inanimate objects or a face slapped onto some simple shapes to form a vaguely anthropomorphic blob, doesn't it?
I guess if an animal's design is simplistic enough it's closer to the vague blob thing, but I'm not sure.

Yeah visualization would be helpful. Only thing I think I could add is that if you're not doing this already, you should make certain you've got a good microphone that you can plug headphones into. Because then you can hear yourself and make adjustments in real time. When I practice I record myself then make mental notes of what to change.

Facerig is not steam. Maybe add more options instead of less?

Cute projecting, BTW. Honestly, I am picky because I do not like Steam's DRM. They can literally remove programs from your computer via their DRM and have done so before, sometimes on accident. As to Apple: expensive hardware treadmill with software that updates to nerf your system every 2 years (or less). Also terrible on right to repair which is big problem these days. The hoops and troubles they add to repair your hardware, the lies the "geniuses" at repair shops tell you so you will buy new stuff, and the e-waste it all generates are all reasons I don't like Apple's repair stance. First month was 2 planned a week, but I gorilla semi-frequently, so average 3.5 a week.

Youtube vs Twitch for streaming?
There seems to be no end to pros and cons for each other. I'm primarily going to be doing gaming streams but will also be doing the random non-game stream here and there like media share, reviews of some sort (maybe fan art if that ever happens), potentially terribly scuffed karaoke, and maybe opening streams (with handcam. )
I don't plan on making money off of streaming or turning it into a full-time job but if it naturally goes to that point where I can monetize then I would.

very common timeloop but i think most people will argue for twitch unless you plan to go very into prerecorded content
a lot of chuubas will stream on yt and then end up switching to twitch for much bigger numbers
twitch having a much smaller entry for custom emotes and things like channel point redeems for interactivity is also nice
you can also just make a channel for clips and reviews on youtube to have on the side as well

Unless you are signed: Twitch for livestreaming and YouTube for clips, recorded streams, and marketing yourself.

Twitch is the go-to site for people who want to watch streams, so much that chuubas who constantly try to Hololarp and stream on Youtube move to Twitch and see instant success. Even more successful indies like Randon who stream on Youtube acknowledge Twitch is better.

If you want to be a livestreamer, stream on Twitch. If you want to solely make video content or game commentary, then don't even stream on Youtube just record your gameplay and edit it down. As a Twitch streamer you still need Youtube content, but there's a reason a majority of streamers pick Twitch, and that reason is because it's where a majority of the streaming audience goes to watch streams.
